PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldonado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aldonado comes to the cage accompanied by Run This Town. Aldonado has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The key to victory for Jose Aldonado has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Aldonado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabricio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Aldonado backs up against the cage.
Gracie looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Aldonado gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Gracie takes a knee right on the jaw!
Gracie tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Aldonado smiles and moves away.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The fight stays on the outside here - Aldonado looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Aldonado moves in looking to clinch but Gracie pushes him off.

Gracie takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Aldonado scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gracie doesn't seem bothered though.
Aldonado dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gracie. That did some damage!

Aldonado looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie has his hands clasped together around Aldonado's back. He's all about the action.

Aldonado is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gracie has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gracie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Gracie uses the cage to get back to his feet.

and Aldonado moves into the clinch.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Aldonado attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Aldonado is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Aldonado obliges.

Aldonado has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Gracie is trying to keep an underhook but Aldonado manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Gracie is trying to stand up here but Aldonado is controlling him well.

Aldonado drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Aldonado jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Aldonado throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gracie works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Aldonado accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Aldonado has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gracie manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gracie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Aldonado has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Aldonado!

Gracie manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Aldonado is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can.
You get the feeling that Aldonado really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Gracie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Aldonado has worked his arm free - good work by Aldonado!

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Aldonado tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Aldonado is not content to let Gracie control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Fabricio Gracie will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Gracie closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Aldonado is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gracie is controlling him well.
Aldonado is trying to improve his position.
Aldonado wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Aldonado sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Gracie moves nicely into side control.
Fabricio Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Aldonado is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gracie decides to stand back up. Gracie steps back and let's Aldonado get back to his feet.

and Aldonado counters with a stiff right hand.
Fabricio Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

and Aldonado holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Gracie tightens his grip and picks Aldonado up, before dumping him to the ground. Aldonado manages to land in guard.

Gracie stays in close to Aldonado's body and controls the position.

Aldonado controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Aldonado wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.

Aldonado pulls Gracie in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Aldonado keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Fabricio Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt
and Aldonado counters with a nice leg kick.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Aldonado circles away easily
and Aldonado counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fabricio Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
