PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Slipp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Guavo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guavo comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Jizz In My Pants kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Eddie Guavo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Slipp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eddie Guavo!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guavo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Slipp.

Slipp closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Slipp gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Guavo.
Slipp is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Guavo pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Slipp jumps into guard, dragging Guavo to the mat.
Guavo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Guavo stopping the sweep attempt from Slipp.

Slipp has an active guard here but Guavo has managed to pass into half guard.
Slipp has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Guavo is working away from the top position though.
Slipp is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Guavo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Guavo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Slipp misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Slipp.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Slipp throws a right hand that Guavo ducks under and follows up with a left that Guavo also avoids with ease.
Slipp shoots in but Guavo avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Slipp is breathing heavily.
Guavo lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
James Slipp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Guavo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Slipp napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You can see the frustration on Slipp's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Slipp sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Guavo moves nicely into side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Slipp tries to bench press Guavo off him but Guavo keeps the position.
Guavo works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Slipp manages to get back to half guard.
Guavo is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Guavo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Slipp is just riding it out for now. Guavo eventually gives up the hold.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Slipp keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Slipp shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slipp tries to roll over but Guavo keeps him under control.

Guavo wants to pass to mount but Slipp is defending the position.

Slipp is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Guavo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Slipp is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Guavo pulls his head out easily.
Slipp wants to control but Guavo is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Guavo moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Slipp.
Slipp is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Guavo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Slipp moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Slipp is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Guavo is aware though and is defending well.
Slipp bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Guavo's guard.
Slipp wants to control from the top but Guavo keeps moving.
Slipp trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Slipp wants to control from the top but Guavo keeps moving.

Slipp drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Guavo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Slipp has Guavo in his guard.
Slipp is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Slipp wants to hit a switch here but Guavo passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Slipp there!
The referee warns Slipp that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Slipp is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Guavo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Guavo lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Slipp shoots and misses

and Guavo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Slipp won't be happy with that.

Guavo is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Slipp looks calm but he's in trouble here. Guavo gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Slipp is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Guavo lets go of the hold and Slipp can pop his arm back in it's socket.
