Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Damascus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Waldo Whip! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whip dodges the punch combination from Damascus.
Whip misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Whip shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Damascus is trying to defend but Whip finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Damascus trying to control from the bottom.
Whip is pressing down on Damascus's thigh, looking to free his foot. Damascus is holding on for now. Whip is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Whip not landing any meaningful shots this time. Damascus blocking the ground and pound attempt from Whip. Whip passes the guard and advances to mount! Damascus takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whip jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Damascus is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Damascus and Whip has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Whip working the ground and pound but Damascus is defending the strikes. The ground and pound from Whip seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Whip misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Whip thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Whip is putting a hurting on Damascus here, landing some big shots from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Damascus parries the strikes from Whip easily there. Whip is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Damascus to escape.
Whip passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Damascus! A nice elbow there by Whip. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Whip cracks Damascus with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Damascus is breathing heavily. Whip unloading with bombs! Damascus taking shots to the head. Whip scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Whip has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Damascus is forced to tap!
