The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoberman thows a left - swing and a miss!
Bates scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Bates uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hoberman.

Hoberman is looking to improve his position but Bates isn't that keen on the idea.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hoberman fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Bates shoots in and drives through. Hoberman sprawls well.
Hoberman throws a leg kick which misses Bates's front leg but catches the back leg as Bates tries to avoid it.

Hoberman pushes Bates away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bates gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Hoberman is trying to control Bates's posture but Bates avoids it.
Bates is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hoberman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Bates is breathing heavily.
Hoberman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bates wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mitch Hoberman will probably get the nod.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
