PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aras Szlesz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Saliva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aras Szlesz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Saliva!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Szlesz shoots in for a double leg but Saliva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Szlesz moves in looking to clinch but Saliva pushes him off.
A punch combination from Saliva misses.
Saliva tries to score a power double leg takedown but Szlesz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Saliva somewhat.

Szlesz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Saliva counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Szlesz is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Szlesz wants to pass to mount but Saliva is defending the position.
Saliva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Szlesz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Szlesz's back!

You can see the frustration on Szlesz's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Szlesz breaks Saliva's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Szlesz wanted to stand there but Saliva had control of the position.
Saliva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Saliva bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Szlesz's guard.
Szlesz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Saliva wants to control from the top but Szlesz keeps moving.
Szlesz tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Szlesz keeping full guard, as Saliva tries to pass.
Szlesz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Szlesz wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Saliva won't allow Szlesz to get back to his feet.

Jim Saliva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Szlesz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Saliva is fighting to break Szlesz's control of his arms but Szlesz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Saliva has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Szlesz.

Jim Saliva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Saliva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
