Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roy Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Oak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robert Oak has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roy Palmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Oak!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oak will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Palmer lands a really nice looking cross but Oak seems unphased.

Palmer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Oak is trying to defend but Palmer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Oak is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Well, if Palmer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Palmer is thwarting Oak's attempts to control the position.
Oak is trying is best to control the position here.
Still in half guard, Palmer seems content to control.
Palmer stops Oak from getting back to his feet.
Palmer missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Oak wants to control but Palmer is keeping busy.
Oak wants to get back to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice sprawl there from Oak as Palmer shoots in.
Palmer takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Palmer shoots for a double leg takedown but Oak sprawls well. He's pushed Palmer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Oak ducks under a wild hook from Palmer.
Oak takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Palmer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Oak as he jumps to the side.

Oak tries for a takedown but Palmer circles away easily

and Palmer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Oak's guard.
Palmer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Oak is keeping the position for now.
Palmer wants to control from the top but Oak keeps moving.
Palmer stopping the sweep attempt from Oak.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oak wants to improve his position but instead Palmer has moved into half guard.
Palmer prevents Oak from standing back up.
Palmer missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Oak tries to roll over but Palmer keeps him under control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Palmer has his takedown stuffed
and Oak counters with a left and a right that stings Palmer.

Palmer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Palmer shoots and misses

and Oak counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Palmer!
Palmer is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Oak throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Oak misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Oak throws some wild stikes that Palmer manages to avoid easily.

Palmer somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Oak loads up on a big right hand but Palmer slips the punch.

and Oak counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Palmer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Oak working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Oak throws a strike but Palmer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Oak is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Oak bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Palmer's guard.
Oak stops Palmer from standing up.

Oak wants to pass the guard but Palmer is keeping the position.
Oak postures up in Palmer's guard and throws a big left but Palmer blocks it.
Oak throws a big right hand that misses.
Oak thows a big elbow that misses.

Palmer pushes Oak off and gets back to his feet.
Palmer doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Oak decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Palmer's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Oak with a flurry of punches that miss.

Oak throwing strikes but missing.
Oak throws and elbow that misses. Palmer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Oak's guard. Nice move by Palmer!
Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Oak wants to sweep here but Palmer controlling him for the moment.
Palmer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Palmer wants to control from the top but Oak keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Palmer's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Oak trying to keep a closed guard but Palmer is proving a slippery customer.
Oak wants to sweep here but Palmer controlling him for the moment.

Oak throws his legs up looking for a submission but Palmer uses it to pass to side control.
Oak is breathing heavily.
Oak is looking to reverse the position.
Palmer misses with the ground and pound.
Oak tries to bench press Palmer off him but Palmer keeps the position.
Oak is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Oak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Oak is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Oak looking to control but Palmer passes into half guard.
Oak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Palmer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Oak has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Oak tries to roll over but Palmer keeps him under control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Still in half guard, Palmer seems content to control.
Oak is looking to escape.
Palmer seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Oak wants to get back to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Palmer fails with the takedown

and Oak counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Palmer is looking to stand up but Oak isn't so interested in that idea.
Palmer preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Oak passes Palmer's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Oak seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Oak wants to advance to full mount but Palmer doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Palmer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Oak throws and elbow that misses. Palmer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Oak's guard. Nice move by Palmer!

Roy Palmer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
