Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joe Kill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Emelianenko is looking to clinch. Emelianenko looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Emelianenko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Kill wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Nice shot lands for Kill.
It looks like Fedor Emelianenko has been cut. No luck with that takedown attempt from Kill. Kill doesn't succeed with the takedown and Emelianenko counters with a takedown into side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kill tries to bench press Emelianenko off him but Emelianenko keeps the position. Kill parries the strikes from Emelianenko easily there. Emelianenko is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kill to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kill wants to get back to his feet. Kill tries to improve position but can't. You can see the frustration on Kill's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Kill on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kill tries to get out of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kill is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Emelianenko's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Kill is looking for a sweep. Emelianenko is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Kill has one foot on Emelianenko's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Kill works Emelianenko's body with a nice hook. Kill forces Emelianenko back against the cage and clinches. Emelianenko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kill pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kill bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Kill is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Emelianenko looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kill gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Emelianenko is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kill lets go of the hold and Emelianenko can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Joe Kill!
