PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Syntha Six (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miksu Rupunen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rupunen is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down. Miksu Rupunen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Syntha Six!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miksu Rupunen!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rupunen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rupunen is trying to control the action in half guard but Six is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rupunen missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Six regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Rupunen.
Rupunen looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rupunen sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Six keeping moving, preventing Rupunen from controlling successfully.
Rupunen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

I looks like Rupunen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Six pulls Rupunen in to control the position.
Rupunen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rupunen wants to pass the guard but Six is keeping the position.
Six looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rupunen puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Rupunen is trying to control the action in half guard but Six is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rupunen wants to get back to his feet.

Despite being in the dominant position, Miksu Rupunen just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rupunen throws an overhand right that lands on Six's shoulder, as Six tries to avoid the shot.
Six thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rupunen scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Six fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Good standup being displayed there by Six as he connects with a hook.
Rupunen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Six moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Syntha Six is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Six getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Rupunen defending well as Six loads up on a big left hand.
Rupunen takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Rupunen looks gassed!
Six misses with a wild combination.
A telegraphed right hand from Rupunen misses the target.
Six misses with a few strikes there.

Rupunen drives through with a takedown into guard.

Six is working an open guard so Rupunen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Six scores with a jab to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rupunen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Six prevents a takedown attempt there.
Six is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Rupunen is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Six can't fight it off and eventually Rupunen manages to take the fight to the floor. Six looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rupunen won't allow Six to sweep him here.

Rupunen tries to stand but Six is controlling from the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Syntha Six will probably get the nod.
That's time! Six's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Six lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Six throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Syntha Six is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Six misses with a jab, cross combination.
Miksu Rupunen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rupunen has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rupunen there as he acknowledges the shot.
Six throws a nice looking combination but Rupunen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Rupunen takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Six defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rupunen.
Six misses with an uppercut. Rupunen saw that one coming.

Rupunen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Rupunen wants the takedown. Six is fighting it off but Rupunen persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Six's guard against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rupunen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Six looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Six looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Six!

Rupunen is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Six is controlling him well.

Six looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Rupunen gets back to half guard.
Rupunen is breathing heavily.
Rupunen is trying to get back to full guard.
Rupunen tries to kick Six off but Six keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Six is keen to just control but Rupunen is a slippery customer.

Rupunen is defending against the submission attempts here by Six.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Six wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rupunen keeps working.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Six throws a left and a right that both miss

Miksu Rupunen has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rupunen throws and elbow that misses. Six uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rupunen's guard. Nice move by Six!

Six keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rupunen's head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Six pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rupunen is keeping the position for now.
Six throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rupunen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Six looking to sit in guard and control but Rupunen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rupunen has gone for a leg lock! Six slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rupunen's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Syntha Six will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Rupunen throws a right hand that Six ducks under and follows up with a left that Six also avoids with ease.

Six gets caught flat footed, as Rupunen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Six pulls Rupunen in close to his closed guard and prevents Rupunen from doing any damage or advancing position.

Rupunen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Rupunen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Six kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Left hook, right uppercut from Rupunen.
Six looks to score with a jab to the body but Rupunen is just out of range.
Rupunen shoots for a takedown but Six saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rupunen shoots in but no luck this time.
Rupunen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rupunen drops his hands momentarily and Six takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Six stuffs the takedown.
Syntha Six has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miksu Rupunen.
Six throws a lazy body kick

and Rupunen counters with a shoot takedown. Six fights it but they end up in guard.
Rupunen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rupunen is fighting to break Six's control of his arms but Six is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Rupunen is stalling in the full guard.

Rupunen tries to free his leg and advance position but Six is retaining full guard.
Rupunen's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Rupunen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Six manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rupunen has Six in his guard.
Syntha Six is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Miksu Rupunen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Six has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
