Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Abe Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Emong Cordero! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Cordero has one foot on Thomas's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Thomas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cordero's guard. Thomas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cordero swivels though and keeps the full guard. Thomas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Thomas thows a big elbow that misses. Thomas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Thomas stands and throws Cordero's legs to the side, diving into side control. Thomas tries to move into full mount but can't pass Cordero's legs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Cordero is not content to let Thomas control the position. Thomas throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Cordero is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Thomas lands an elbow. Thomas tries to score with some ground and pound. Cordero controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. An elbow from Thomas crashes against the mat.
Thomas lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Cordero down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomas throws an elbow but Cordero slips to the side and avoids it well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas is working Cordero over with some ground and pound from side control. Thomas working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Cordero is not content to let Thomas control the position. Thomas throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cordero takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Cordero is letting Thomas control him for a moment. Cordero really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cordero looks gassed! Thomas scores with a couple of short elbows. Thomas taking a breather here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thomas lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Thomas moves into full mount! Thomas looking to control but Cordero is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Cordero taking shots to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Abe Thomas dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Thomas ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Thomas lands a body shot.
Thomas feints and as Cordero raises his hands in defense, Thomas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Cordero utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Cordero working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Thomas. Cordero wants to get back to his feet but Thomas is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Thomas wants to control from the top but Cordero keeps moving. Thomas looking to pass the guard. Cordero is wriggling around but Thomas manages to pass to half guard.
Cordero is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Thomas working over Cordero with some ground and pound. Cordero looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Thomas sitting and controlling from the half guard. Thomas has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cordero won't allow Thomas to pass to mount. Thomas trying to control the action but Cordero is working from the bottom. Thomas passes to full mount! Thomas with the ground and pound from mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas landing strikes from the mount and Cordero is in trouble! Thomas wants to control the pace but Cordero is squirming around nicely. Thomas lands a big elbow. Thomas is landing with some decent strikes but Cordero is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Thomas looking to finish Cordero with some ground and pound. This is bad for Cordero! Thomas landing punches. Thomas lands with some strikes.

Thomas working for a guillotine from mount but Cordero is in no mood to give up. Abe Thomas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Thomas cracks Cordero with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

This has been an exciting period of action! Thomas with a couple of short strikes. Thomas with a couple of short strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Abe Thomas dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Thomas shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cordero napping and manages to drive through into side control! Cordero stops Thomas from passing to mount. Thomas goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cordero has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Thomas but great work by Cordero. Cordero wants to stand but Thomas has his arm trapped. Thomas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cordero's best efforts. Cordero takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Thomas gets back to full guard.
Thomas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Thomas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cordero manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Thomas works a leg free and moves into half guard. Thomas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Ground and pound from Thomas. Thomas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cordero's head. Thomas landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Thomas works his way into side control. Thomas trying to control the action but Cordero is working from the bottom. Abe Thomas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas controls the position from side control. Thomas is chipping away with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Thomas working the ground and pound but Cordero is defending the strikes. Cordero is letting Thomas control him for a moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that's the end of the fight! Abe Thomas showed his dominance in that final round. Well Thomas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
