Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Weis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredrik Persson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Persson has chosen Johnny Cash - Rusty cage as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Fredrik Persson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steven Weis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fredrik Persson! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Persson closes the distance and clinches up with Weis, looking for a takedown. Persson pushes Weis against the cage but Weis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Persson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. The fight stays on the outside here - Persson looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Weis throws a sloppy head kick and Persson moves out of range easily. Weis scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Fredrik Persson has been cut. Persson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Weis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Weis is trying to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sloppy strikes there by Persson. Persson tries for a kimura but Weis is defending well. Persson looks gassed! Persson tries to stand but Weis is controlling his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Persson tries to move into full mount but can't pass Weis's legs. Persson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Weis knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Weis struggling a bit here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Weis throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Persson. Persson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Weis fails in his attempt to clinch. Weis tries to clinch but fails miserably and Persson counters with a single leg into guard. Weis didn't expect that. Weis working a defensive guard here.
Persson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Persson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Weis scores with a leg kick.
Weis clinches but Persson breaks the clinch and Persson counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Persson trying to mount his opponent but Weis defends it. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Weis keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Persson throws a strike but Weis avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Weis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Persson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Steven Weis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Weis tries to clinch up and Persson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Weis won't be happy with that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Persson working away. Weis gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Weis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Persson looking to ground and pound but Weis is blocking nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Weis wants to clinch and Persson counters with a shoot takedown. Weis fights it but they end up in guard. Persson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Weis can't keep his opponent in guard - Persson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Persson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Persson wants to stand up but Weis has a hold of him and won't allow it. Fredrik Persson has got the better of the ground game so far. Weis is looking to control Persson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Weis avoid being mounted? Persson is working for a submission of some sort.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Weis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Weis prevents the takedown attempt.

Steven Weis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fredrik Persson. Weis stalling the fight.
Weis seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Weis using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Persson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Weis is trying to stand up. Persson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Weis has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Weis wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Persson.

Weis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Persson shoots in but no luck this time. Weis tries to clinch up and Persson counters with a three punch combo that has Weis backing up. Weis nods at Persson to acknowledge the strikes. Persson tries to clinch up but Weis circles away and keeps his distance. Persson looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Steven Weis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fredrik Persson. Persson circles away from the clinch attempt and Persson counters with a head kick. Persson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Weis. Weis clinches but Persson breaks the clinch enabling Persson to counter with a crisp jab. Persson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Weis clinches up with Persson and pushes him back against the cage.

Weis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Weis manages to break the clinch.
Weis wants to clinch and Persson counters with a nice double leg into guard. Weis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Persson prevents Weis from getting back to his feet. Weis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Persson on the ground. Persson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Persson wants to pass the guard but Weis is keeping the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Weis misses with a double jab.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Persson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Persson tries to pull guard but Weis won't allow it.

Persson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Weis's calf. Weis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Persson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Weis but Weis pushes him off and we're back to square one. Weis closes the distance looking to clinch and Persson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Weis! Persson raining down shots from the mount! Persson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Weis has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Persson prevents Weis from getting the reversal. Persson has control of Weis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Weis regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Weis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Steven Weis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Persson thowing shots but they're missing.
