PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonah Wasswa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and tom the outlaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wasswa might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to assassin muse. Jonah Wasswa has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Jonah Wasswa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, tom the outlaw!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
the outlaw shoots in and drives through. Wasswa sprawls well.
Wasswa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. the outlaw looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The crowd cheers as Wasswa lands an impressive looking overhand right. the outlaw doesn't seem phased though.
the outlaw takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Wasswa looks to land a left hand but the outlaw moved out of range nicely.
the outlaw tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wasswa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jonah Wasswa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
the outlaw misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Wasswa paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wasswa throws a body punch but the outlaw moves out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Wasswa misses the target.
the outlaw takes one on the button.
Wasswa lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
the outlaw tries to clinch but Wasswa is having none of it.
Wasswa throws a right and a left that both miss.

and the outlaw counters with a single leg into guard. Wasswa didn't expect that.
Wasswa pulls the outlaw in close to prevent any damage.
the outlaw wants to pass the guard but Wasswa is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
the outlaw controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
the outlaw throws a strike but Wasswa rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Wasswa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wasswa won't allow the outlaw to sweep him here.

Wasswa drops back, looking for a kneebar! the outlaw looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. the outlaw looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from the outlaw!
The strikes coming from the outlaw are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

the outlaw working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wasswa wants to control but the outlaw postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wasswa pushes the outlaw away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, the outlaw gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

the outlaw stands up and beckons Wasswa to his feet.
the outlaw shoots for a takedown but Wasswa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
the outlaw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wasswa swivels and escapes.
Jonah Wasswa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of tom the outlaw.
the outlaw walks into a left hand.

the outlaw throws a left and a right that both miss
and Wasswa counters with a lovely straight right hand!
the outlaw darts in trying to clinch

and Wasswa counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Wasswa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. the outlaw doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wasswa.
the outlaw wants to control but Wasswa is keeping busy.

Wasswa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Wasswa trying to pass the guard but the outlaw defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wasswa scores with a shot to the body.
Wasswa connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

the outlaw gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
the outlaw is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
the outlaw jumps guard but Wasswa stands there with the outlaw around his waist. the outlaw gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
the outlaw tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wasswa just stands there and leans against the ropes.
Jonah Wasswa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of tom the outlaw.
the outlaw has a couple of punches blocked by Wasswa.
Wasswa prevents a takedown attempt there.
Wasswa goes for a takedown in the clinch but the outlaw prevents it.
Wasswa is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.

the outlaw escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wasswa throws a head kick but the outlaw moves out of range.
A head kick by Wasswa misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Wasswa connects with a body shot.
Wasswa missing with a left hand there. the outlaw was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
the outlaw gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Wasswa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Wasswa works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Wasswa decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Wasswa is looking for a kimura here.

Wasswa is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, the outlaw has managed to free his arm - good work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wasswa stalling away here and it's allowed the outlaw to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

the outlaw tries to strike from the bottom.

Wasswa drops back, looking for a kneebar! the outlaw looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. the outlaw looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from the outlaw!
the outlaw throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Wasswa works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
the outlaw stalling.

the outlaw tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wasswa knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wasswa tries to kick the outlaw off but the outlaw keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wasswa keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
the outlaw content to control rather than advance.
the outlaw thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wasswa's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

the outlaw is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jonah Wasswa will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Wasswa postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! the outlaw is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wasswa, into his guard.
the outlaw wants to control from the top but Wasswa keeps moving.

the outlaw looking to sit in guard and control but Wasswa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
the outlaw manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wasswa manages to get himself to full guard.
the outlaw wants to pass the guard but Wasswa is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wasswa keeping moving, preventing the outlaw from controlling successfully.
the outlaw wants to stand and escape but instead Wasswa has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Wasswa is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! the outlaw is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! the outlaw has escaped and now he's on top!
the outlaw wants to control from the top but Wasswa keeps moving.

the outlaw drops back, looking for a kneebar! Wasswa looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Wasswa looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Wasswa!
Jonah Wasswa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Wasswa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, the outlaw has escaped the position, nice work there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Wasswa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wasswa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
the outlaw is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
the outlaw tries to escape but Wasswa is in control.
the outlaw is looking to regain half guard here but Wasswa keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
the outlaw is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Wasswa off and has taken his back!
tom the outlaw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wasswa trying to get back to his feet but the outlaw is in full control for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jonah Wasswa.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wasswa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
