Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John McCarthy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeremy Clarkson! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clarkson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McCarthy, pushing him back against the cage. Clarkson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. McCarthy is trying to keep an underhook but Clarkson manages to get the takedown into half guard. McCarthy kicks off Clarkson and gets to his feet. The fighters circling - McCarthy throws out the jab but it was never going to land. McCarthy waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Clarkson. Clarkson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. McCarthy tries to buck Clarkson off but he can't manage it. Clarkson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McCarthy manages to avoid the submission attempt. McCarthy wants to get back to his feet but Clarkson drags him back down. Clarkson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McCarthy has escaped the position, nice work there. Clarkson prevents McCarthy from escaping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCarthy trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. McCarthy throws out a loose jab but Clarkson uses good head movement to avoid it. McCarthy throws a hook but Clarkson avoids it easily. McCarthy throws a hook but Clarkson blocks it. A big right from McCarthy misses. Clarkson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Clarkson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McCarthy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Clarkson looks gassed! McCarthy pushes Clarkson away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Clarkson gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clarkson has an Americana. McCarthy didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Clarkson is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Clarkson hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jeremy Clarkson!
