Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Dubois! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dubois lands a big head kick that sends Rua tumbling to the mat! Dubois takes a step backwards and waves Rua back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Rua is rocked!
It looks like Marcelo Rua has been cut. Rua shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dubois but Dubois pushes him off and we're back to square one. Oh Rua is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Dubois shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dubois won't be happy with that. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dubois can do anything to dispel that myth. This has been an exciting period of action! Rua is looking to take a break and control but Dubois is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rua seems to have got his legs back now. Dubois is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rua asserts his dominance and retains side control. That's one minute gone in the round. Rua decides to stand back up. Rua is looking to clinch but Dubois is avoiding it.
Dubois fails to land with a series of punches.
Dubois tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Dubois throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dubois throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Rua tries to clinch up and Dubois counters with a head kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rua scores with a jab. Rua tries to clinch up but Dubois circles away and keeps his distance. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rua is defended easily by Dubois. Dubois tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rua swats him away and circles back towards the center. Dubois fails to land with a series of punches.
Chris Dubois seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rua tries to clinch up. Dubois lands a left and a right that send Rua crashing to the mat, dazed. Dubois thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Marcelo Rua's cut is getting worse. Rua is breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! Dubois fails to land with a series of punches.
Dubois lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Rua falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Chris Dubois!
