Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Kernes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cornelius Jacobs! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kernes is looking to score with low kicks. Kernes tries to close the distance and clinch but Jacobs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Kernes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jacobs paws at him with a jab and circles away. Jacobs doesn't manage to clinch there - Kernes circles away.
Kernes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Kernes misses with a few strikes there.
Jacobs uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kernes.
Kernes throws a head kick but Jacobs moves out of range.
Kernes throws a sloppy head kick and Jacobs moves out of range easily. Kernes wants to clinch but Jacobs slips to the side and Jacobs counters with a thumping low kick. Good leg kick by Kernes there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kernes misses with a leg kick and Jacobs connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Kernes tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Jacobs makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Jacobs checks a leg kick. Kernes throws a combination that misses and Jacobs counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kernes thinking. Jacobs slips a jab from Kernes. The fight stays on the outside here - Jacobs looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacobs takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. The fight moves into the clinch position. Kernes is trying to maintain a safe position but Jacobs gets an underhook and turns Kernes into the cage. With the fighters up against the cage, Jacobs throws an elbow but misses. Kernes misses with an elbow over the top. Kernes blocks the elbow strike.

Kernes misses with some punches.
Jacobs pulls guard effortlessly. Jacobs is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kernes stopping the sweep attempt from Jacobs. Jacobs is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kernes is looking to escape. Kernes is not content to let Jacobs control the position. Jacobs is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kernes is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
