PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Omega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gahn Jah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Omega comes to the cage accompanied by Smells like teen spirit. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Omega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gahn Jah!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Omega ducks under a wild hook from Jah.
Omega takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Jah fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jah buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Jah darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jah knocks Omega to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?


It looks like Kenny Omega has been cut.
Omega is working to avoid the ground and pound but Jah connects with a decent elbow.
Jah lands some shots froms side control.
Omega is looking to reverse the position.
Jah working the ground and pound from side control.
Omega tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jah wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Jah blocks the strikes from Omega.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jah tries to get to his feet but Omega is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Jah in his guard.
Jah trying to stand up but can't free himself from Omega's guard.

Jah drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Omega manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jah has Omega in his guard.

Omega missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jah avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jah wants to improve his position but instead Omega has moved into half guard.
Jah pushes Omega off looking to stand but Omega dives back in and keeps control.
Omega seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Omega thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Jah to regain full guard.
Jah avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Omega drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jah looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jah looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jah!

Jah wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Omega, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Omega regains half guard.
Omega could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Omega wants to get back to full guard.
Jah wants to take a breather but Omega is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Omega wants to get back to full guard.
Omega flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Jah tries to stand but can't do so whilst Omega controls his leg.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jah. Omega does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jah will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jah thows a left - swing and a miss!
Omega uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jah.
Jah lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Omega closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Omega lands in his opponent's guard.
Jah looks gassed!
Omega makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Jah is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Omega postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Omega scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Jah wants to get back to his feet but Omega is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jah preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Omega has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Omega throwing strikes from guard but Jah blocks nicely.
Omega postures up in Jah's guard and throws a big left but Jah blocks it.

Omega is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jah thows a body shot but no joy.
Jah gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Omega counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Omega.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Omega chips away with some ground and pound.
Jah wants to get back to his feet but Omega is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Jah has his foot on Omega's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Omega works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gahn Jah dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kenny Omega's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Omega fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jah connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Omega slips under a jab from Jah.
Omega closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jah circles away.
Omega takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Jah throws a big shot that misses.
Jah connects with a good right hand that stumbles Omega. Omega circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Omega dives in and grabs Jah's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jah pushes down on Omega's head and hops out.
Jah slaps away a takedown attempt from Omega, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Omega. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jah leaves Omega with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jah throws a nice inside leg kick.

Jah scores with a jab. Omega acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Jah misses with a head kick.
Jah misses with a body shot.
Left hook, right uppercut from Jah.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jah connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Omega's hands.
Omega avoids the head kick by Jah.
Jah lands an overhand right.
Omega misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jah pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gahn Jah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jah falls off balance throwing a combination

and Omega counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Jah pushes Omega off and gets back to his feet.

Omega feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jah wants to sweep here but Omega controlling him for the moment.
Jah is looking to stand up but Omega isn't so interested in that idea.

Jah is working an open guard so Omega takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jah throws a nice looking combination but Omega bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jah throws a hook but Omega avoids it easily.
Jah throws a jab but it's blocked by Omega.
Jah lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Omega circles away quickly and effectively.
Jah thows a body shot but no joy.

Omega looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jah!

Omega lands a nice shot to the head.

BOOM! Omega connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Jah tries to buck Omega off but he can't manage it.
Omega looking to finish Jah with some ground and pound. This is bad for Jah!
Omega has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jah's face.
Omega pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Kenny Omega overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Omega lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Omega is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jah can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jah wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Omega cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gahn Jah showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Omega on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Donk. Jah catches Omega right on the button with a cross.
Jah throws a quick inside leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Omega.
Gahn Jah seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Omega will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jah lands a head kick. Omega smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Jah doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Omega counters with a shoot takedown. Jah fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Omega won't allow Jah to get back to his feet.
Omega stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jah swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Omega loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jah is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Omega chips away with some ground and pound.

Omega drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jah dives on top into guard.

Omega working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jah doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jah manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Omega throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Omega escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jah gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jah stands up over Omega, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Jah got a little sloppy there for a moment and Omega has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jah has managed to get both his arms back between Omega's legs - danger averted.
Gahn Jah is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jah trying to stand up but can't free himself from Omega's guard.
Omega keeping moving, preventing Jah from controlling successfully.
Omega working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jah.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jah connects with a body shot.
Jah throws a body kick that misses.
Omega steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jah.
Jah throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Omega's head.
Jah lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Jah lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Omega at a distance.
Jah throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jah digs a good hook to Omega's body.

Omega changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jah looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jah wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Omega working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Omega is chipping away with strikes.
Jah takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Omega creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jah sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Jah wants to control but Omega postures up.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Jah is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Omega landing strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Omega scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Jah to see if he's OK.
Omega is trying to ground and pound but Jah uses the momentary lack of control by Omega to regain half guard.
Jah looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Omega shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jah as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Omega. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jah ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kenny Omega has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Omega throws out a leg kick but Jah moves out of range and Omega only half commits.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gahn Jah comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jah winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
