PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marvin Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carwin is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Break Stuff. Carwin has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Brock Carwin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marvin Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brock Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Harris looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Harris moves into the clinch.
Carwin tries to stall but Harris uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Harris is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Carwin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Carwin throws a head kick that misses.
Harris dives in and grabs Carwin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Carwin pushes down on Harris's head and hops out.

Harris has taken the fight to the clinch.
Harris prevents Carwin from breaking the clinch.
Carwin looking to slow down the pace here.
Harris stops a takedown attempt from Carwin.
Carwin looks gassed!
Carwin is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Harris jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carwin walks away with a smile on his face. Harris gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marvin Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Harris lands a front kick.
Harris shoots in but Carwin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Harris is looking to clinch but Carwin is avoiding it.

Harris stuffs the takedown.
Harris fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Harris looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Harris has taken the fight to the clinch.
Harris is trying to drag Carwin to the mat but Carwin just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Carwin is pressed up against the cage. Harris has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Carwin down to the mat. Carwin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Harris throws a combination. Carwin tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Harris closes the distance and pushes Carwin back into the cage.

Harris has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Carwin is trying to keep an underhook but Harris manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Harris slows the pace down in half guard.

Carwin is refusing to be controlled, as Harris sits in half guard.

Carwin is in trouble now - Harris has advanced to mount!

Carwin can't escape the position.
Harris controlling the pace for now.
Harris connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Harris working away from the top, dropping strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carwin tries to hold on but Harris postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carwin is squirming around, avoiding Harris's attempts to control the action.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Harris is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Carwin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Harris trying to control but Carwin is having none of it.
Harris scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Carwin?

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Harris moves into the clinch.
Harris lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Harris drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Harris pulls guard.
Harris is pulling down on Carwin's head. It's preventing any offense from Carwin, at least for the moment.
Carwin wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carwin stops Harris from standing up.

Harris kicks Carwin off and gets to his feet.

Harris shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Carwin is trying to keep Harris in close.
Carwin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Harris gets to his feet - Carwin follows without any prompting.
Carwin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Harris.

Carwin misses with the combination.
No luck for Harris with that takedown attempt.

and Carwin counters by moving into the clinch.
Harris's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Harris pulls Carwin into guard.

Carwin trying to control but Harris is working from the bottom.
Carwin passes Harris's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Harris manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Carwin tries to clinch there but Harris circles away.
Carwin takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Carwin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Harris napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Harris manages to get back to half guard.
Harris is trying to get back to full guard.

Carwin decides to return to a standing position.
Harris shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carwin pinned against the cage. Carwin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Carwin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Harris throws out a powerful jab.
Carwin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Harris.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marvin Harris dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Harris wants to clinch but Carwin slips to the side

and Carwin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carwin.

Harris is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Carwin defends well.

Harris is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Carwin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Harris pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Harris lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Carwin is staying active underneath Harris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Harris is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carwin defends it well.

Harris is keen to just control but Carwin is a slippery customer.
Harris takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Carwin is trying to maintain the position but Harris is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Harris avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Harris thows a body kick. Carwin tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Harris clinches up with Carwin and pushes him back against the cage.
Carwin stops a takedown attempt from Harris.
Carwin wants to get back to striking at distance but Harris won't allow it.
Harris wants to break the clinch but can't.
Carwin tries to circle away but Harris has him pinned against the cage.
Carwin is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Harris is defending well for now.
Carwin fails to pull guard.

Harris is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Carwin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Harris escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Carwin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Harris to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Carwin is trying to control the position but Harris postures up.
Harris is pushing down on Carwin's leg trying to pass to half guard. Carwin is fighting to maintain full guard but Harris has managed to sneak the leg through.
Carwin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Harris is working away from the top position though.
Harris seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carwin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marvin Harris showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Harris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
