Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ryan Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matias Eskelinen! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eskelinen shoots in for a double leg but Nelson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Eskelinen shoots for a takedown but Nelson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Nelson lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Eskelinen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Ryan Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matias Eskelinen. Nelson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Nelson moves in looking to clinch but Eskelinen pushes him off. Eskelinen has his takedown stuffed and Nelson counters with a thumping low kick. Eskelinen fails with the takedown and Nelson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Nelson moves in looking to clinch but Eskelinen pushes him off. Nelson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Eskelinen looks to land a left hand but Nelson moved out of range nicely. No luck for Eskelinen with that takedown attempt. Eskelinen looks gassed! Nelson gets the takedown into side control. Nelson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Eskelinen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Eskelinen is letting Nelson control him for a moment. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's one minute gone in the round. Eskelinen can't do much from the bottom here. Nelson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Eskelinen is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Eskelinen is being controlled here. Nelson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Eskelinen keeps working. Eskelinen is looking to regain half guard here but Nelson keeps moving and retains side control. Nelson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Eskelinen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nelson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Nelson tries to clinch up but Eskelinen circles away and keeps his distance. Nelson throws a series of punches but Eskelinen moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Nice takedown defense from Nelson. No joy for Eskelinen on that attempt. Horrible takedown by Nelson or perhaps it was just good defense by Eskelinen which made him look bad. Nelson lands a head kick!
Nelson is looking to clinch. Nelson moves in looking to clinch but Eskelinen pushes him off. Eskelinen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Nelson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Nelson lands a high kick!

Eskelinen misses with a wild body shot. Nelson moves in looking to clinch but Eskelinen pushes him off. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Nelson, as that shot connected.

Nelson tries to clinch up but Eskelinen circles away and keeps his distance. Nelson moves in looking to clinch but Eskelinen pushes him off. Nelson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Eskelinen. An inside leg kick lands from Nelson. Eskelinen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nelson did well to prevent Eskelinen getting side control. Eskelinen working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Nelson's thigh. Nelson counters though and makes it back to full guard. Nelson pulls Eskelinen in close to his closed guard and prevents Eskelinen from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Eskelinen throwing strikes but missing. Nelson wants to stand up but Eskelinen is controlling him. Eskelinen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nelson is keeping the position for now. Nelson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Eskelinen on the ground. Eskelinen advances to half guard. Nelson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Eskelinen. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Nelson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Nelson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Eskelinen. Nelson is looking to clinch. Ryan Nelson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Eskelinen stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Eskelinen wants it to stay on the feet. Eskelinen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nelson but Nelson pushes him off and we're back to square one. Eskelinen fails to land the takedown. Nelson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nelson misses with a takedown attempt and Eskelinen counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Nelson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Eskelinen closes the distance and clinches up with Nelson, looking for a takedown. Eskelinen pushes Nelson against the cage but Nelson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Ryan Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matias Eskelinen. Eskelinen shoots in but Nelson avoids the takedown attempt easily. Nelson has closed the distance and engaged Eskelinen in a clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Nelson manages to break the clinch.

Eskelinen creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nelson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Nelson wants to control but Eskelinen postures up. Eskelinen scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Nelson to see if he's OK. Eskelinen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Nelson stuck in half guard on the bottom here. Eskelinen has an Americana. Nelson didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Eskelinen is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Eskelinen hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
