Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Max Rix! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nathan Macartney! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Macartney closes the distance and clinches up with Rix, looking for a takedown. Macartney pushes Rix against the cage but Rix circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Macartney lands a nice looking kick to the body. Rix takes a step back to recover. Rix misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Macartney throws a front kick that sends Rix stumbling back into the cage. Macartney leaves Rix with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Rix tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Macartney drives through and clinches with Rix against the cage.
Rix goes for a takedown in the clinch but Macartney prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Rix. That's going to take a lot out of him. Macartney tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Macartney can't get the takedown.
Macartney can't break the clinch.
Rix drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Macartney gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rix blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rix turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Rix is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Macartney knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Macartney struggling a bit here. Rix is working to tighten is grip on Macartney's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Macartney has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Rix is really squeezing tight and eventually Macartney passes out! Rix breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
