PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vlad Petreski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Quick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petreski comes to the cage accompanied by I Had to Kill a Lot of People. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlad Petreski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johnny Quick!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quick is looking to clinch.

Quick moves in looking to clinch but Petreski pushes him off.
Quick tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Petreski paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Petreski tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Petreski closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Petreski lands in his opponent's guard.
Petreski might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Quick keeping full guard, as Petreski tries to pass.
Quick wants to get back to his feet but Petreski is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Petreski trying to control the position from guard on top but Quick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Petreski working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Petreski works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Petreski tries to pass to full mount but Quick defends it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Petreski is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Quick doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Petreski.

Petreski is trying to work for a kimura but Quick is defending well.
Quick is trying to stand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Petreski wants to control but Quick is keeping him busy.

Quick kicks off Petreski and gets to his feet.
Quick is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters circling a little - Quick finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Quick looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Quick lands with a nice combination. Petreski backs away looking to recover.
Quick wants to clinch up but Petreski keeps it at a distance.

Quick slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Quick is looking to clinch but Petreski is avoiding it.

Petreski tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Quick lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Petreski at a distance.
Quick throws a series of punches but Petreski moves out of range.
Danga de danga de dang - Quick scores with a four punch combination!
Quick avoids the body shot from Petreski.
Quick throws a push kick but Petreski slaps the foot to one side.
A combination from Quick does no damage.

Quick clinches up with Petreski and pushes him back against the cage.

Quick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Quick throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Quick lands an overhand right.
Quick throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Petreski.
Petreski shoots in but Quick avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Petreski avoids a punch combination nicely.
Quick tries to score a power double leg takedown but Petreski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Quick somewhat.
Petreski looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Quick is fending him off so far but Petreski persists. Nope, Quick circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vlad Petreski. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Petreski moves in looking to clinch but Quick pushes him off.
Quick throws a right and a left that Petreski avoids nicely.
Quick tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Petreski counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Petreski looking to sit in guard and control but Quick gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A close round but Johnny Quick will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Quick throws and low kick but Petreski moves out of range easily.
Quick fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Petreski.
Quick fails to land with a series of punches.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Petreski.

Quick gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Quick is looking to stand up but Petreski isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Petreski counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Petreski seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Quick is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Petreski is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Quick won't allow Petreski to pass to mount.

Quick is not content to let Petreski control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Quick fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Petreski checks it well.
Petreski avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Quick throws a nice looking combination but Petreski bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Quick pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Petreski misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Petreski blocks a head kick by Quick.
Quick scores with a one two! Petreski had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Quick looks to land a combination but Petreski avoids it well.
Petreski takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Johnny Quick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Quick lands with a thumping leg kick.
Petreski takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Quick lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Quick misses with a combination

and Petreski counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Quick!
Quick's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Petreski feints and as Quick raises his hands in defense, Petreski changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Quick is looking to stand up but Petreski isn't so interested in that idea.
Petreski trying to control but Quick is working from the bottom.

Petreski is looking to work some ground and pound but Quick has wrist control.
Petreski wants to pass the guard but Quick is keeping the position.

Petreski tries to free his leg and advance position but Quick is retaining full guard.
Quick is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Petreski is controlling him.
Quick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Petreski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Petreski has Quick pressed against the cage, preventing Quick from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Petreski tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Quick smiles and moves away.
Quick stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Quick wants it to stay on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Petreski stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Quick.
Quick throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Petreski drives through with a takedown into guard.

Petreski is looking to work some ground and pound but Quick has wrist control.
Petreski prevents Quick from getting back to his feet.
Petreski controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Quick wants to stand but Petreski is controlling the position.

Petreski postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Quick is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Petreski, into his guard.
Quick would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Petreski wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Petreski is working an open guard so Quick takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Quick defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Petreski.
