PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kris McCray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kris McCray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Bruno Lombardi and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson stalks McCray and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into McCray's face. McCray staggers backwards, shaken.
Anderson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Anderson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Anderson is looking to clinch but McCray is avoiding it.

McCray shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Anderson is trying to defend but McCray finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McCray is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Anderson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McCray.

McCray decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Johnny Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McCray clinches with his opponent.
Anderson tries to break the clinch but McCray is controlling the position.
Anderson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McCray walks away with a smile on his face. Anderson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Anderson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
McCray swats away the attempt to clinch by Anderson.
Anderson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McCray.
Anderson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Anderson throws a head kick but McCray moves out of range.

McCray forces Anderson back against the cage and clinches.
Anderson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Anderson takes a knee to the side of the body.

McCray gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

McCray postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Anderson to stand up.

Anderson swats away the attempt to clinch by McCray.
McCray has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Anderson looks to clinch

and McCray counters with a shoot takedown. Anderson fights it but they end up in guard.
McCray forces his way into half guard.
McCray stops Anderson from getting back to his feet.
Still in half guard, McCray seems content to control.

McCray looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Anderson wants to sweep but McCray has passed to side control!

Anderson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Anderson tries to bum rush McCray with a series of wild strikes but McCray uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and McCray counters with a nice double leg into side control. Anderson won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

McCray decides to stand back up. McCray steps back and let's Anderson get back to his feet.
McCray slips a jab and a cross from Anderson.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Anderson misses with a wild combination.
Anderson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Anderson throws a sloppy head kick and McCray moves out of range easily.
McCray shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Anderson pinned against the cage. Anderson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and McCray counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McCray stops Anderson from getting back to his feet.
Kris McCray overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Anderson is not content to let McCray control the position.

McCray wants to work for an arm triangle but Anderson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Anderson is trying to maintain the position but McCray is very close to passing his half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Anderson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Anderson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

McCray scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

McCray gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Anderson tries to bum rush McCray with a series of wild strikes but McCray uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

McCray tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Anderson was well out of range. Poor timing from McCray.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from McCray.
McCray misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Anderson lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Anderson scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Anderson tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and McCray counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McCray.
Anderson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Anderson tries to circle away but McCray has him pinned against the cage.

McCray breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight stays on the outside here - Anderson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Anderson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
McCray swings for the body but Anderson moves out of range.
Anderson tries a head kick but it misses.
Anderson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

McCray feints and as Anderson raises his hands in defense, McCray changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
McCray would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kris McCray showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McCray, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
