Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, MJ Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Cornelius Lycett! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Lycett shoots in for a takedown but Penn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Penn avoids a punch combination nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lycett. MJ Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cornelius Lycett. Penn shoots and misses and Lycett counters with an outside leg kick.
Penn moves out of range of the leg kick from Lycett. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lycett with a lazy takedown attempt and Penn counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lycett! Penn scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Penn is working for a guillotine from mount but Lycett frees his head quite easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Lycett holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Penn tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Lycett hang on? Lycett can't escape the position.
Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Penn has control of Lycett's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lycett regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Penn is breathing heavily. Penn looking to secure an arm triangle but Lycett defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lycett has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lycett! Lycett sitting in guard, not really doing much. Lycett trying to stand up but can't free himself from Penn's guard. Lycett is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Penn throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Lycett forces his way into half guard. Penn wants to get back to full guard. Lycett wants to take a breather but Penn is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lycett stalling. Penn is trying to get back to full guard. Lycett wants to take a breather but Penn is having none of it. Penn is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lycett pulls his head out easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Lycett controlling the action here. Lycett wants to lay and pray for a moment but Penn keeps working.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Lycett shoots and misses and Penn counters with a nice double leg into guard. Penn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Penn wants to pass the guard but Lycett is keeping the position. Lycett is trying to control the position but Penn postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
MJ Penn dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Lycett with a poor takedown and Penn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lycett's guard now. Penn drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lycett looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lycett looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lycett! Penn manages to get back to half guard. Penn slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Penn is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lycett is aware though and is defending well. Penn is looking for a triangle but Lycett pushes his legs off easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lycett can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn keeping moving, preventing Lycett from controlling successfully. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lycett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Penn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Lycett avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lycett must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Penn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Lycett wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lycett trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Penn has his foot on Lycett's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lycett works his way back into a safe position though. Penn keeping moving, preventing Lycett from controlling successfully. Penn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Penn trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Lycett tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard. Lycett throws a big right hand that misses. Lycett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lycett content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Lycett should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Penn has tightened it up now! Lycett should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
