PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evander Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kolt Spenser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sandman. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evander Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kolt Spenser!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Spenser shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Jones gets caught flat footed, as Spenser shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jones is trying to control the position but Spenser postures up.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Spenser slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Spenser stopping the sweep attempt from Jones.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Spenser wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Spenser misses with a takedown attempt

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Jones trying to control from half guard but Spenser is working away.
Jones not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Jones looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Spenser trying to control here.
Jones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Spenser does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Spenser wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.
Spenser is just content to waste time from the top position. Jones takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Spenser from controlling successfully.

Jones is looking to stand up but Spenser isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Spenser passes into half guard.
Spenser trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Spenser prevents Jones from improving his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jones with a poor takedown

and Spenser counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that.
Jones is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Spenser drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Spenser jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Spenser is breathing heavily.

Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Spenser is proving a slippery customer.
Spenser stopping the sweep attempt from Jones.

Kolt Spenser showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Jones stuns Spenser with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt

and Spenser counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Jones tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Spenser easily slips into full mount!
Jones wants to control but Spenser is having none of it.
Spenser takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

You get the feeling that Jones really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Jones tries to hold on but Spenser postures up.
Jones is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Spenser trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Jones wants to hold on but Spenser pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Spenser prevents Jones from getting the reversal.
Jones is working hard here to advance position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Spenser looking to control but Jones is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Spenser is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Jones has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Jones!
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Kolt Spenser.
I think Spenser has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
