Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Colon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Colon!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce James!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Colon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Colon lands a shoulder strike.
Colon wants to stall.
James misses with a hook from the clinch.
Colon can't break the clinch.
Colon blocks an uppercut.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Colon.

Colon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Colon is trying hard to land a takedown here. James sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
James gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Colon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Colon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
Colon chips away with some ground and pound.
James is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

James thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Colon wants to improve his position but James is controlling well.
Colon is looking to escape.

James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Colon keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Colon counters with a nice double leg into side control. James won't be happy with that.
James is trying to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Colon is working James over with some ground and pound from side control.
James is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Colon off and has taken his back!
Colon trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
James throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

Colon wants to control his opponent's hands but James gets his hands free.
Colon breaks James's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
James has momentary wrist control but Colon slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Colon keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of James's head.

Colon stands and steps away. James gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Colon tries to clinch there but James circles away.
James tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
James tries for a takedown but Colon circles away easily

and Colon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
John Colon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce James.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Colon scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Colon's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
James can't keep his opponent in guard - Colon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Colon gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Colon shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. James manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.


James is rocked!
Colon advances position into side control!

James is still in real trouble! Can Colon finish him?

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Colon connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused James some visible discomfort.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Colon controlling the position from side mount.
Colon looks up at the clock and then as James takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Colon smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Colon decides to stand up, so the ref orders James to his feet.
Colon lands with a big right hook that stumbles James - he's out on his feet here! Colon follows up with another monster hook that separates James from consciousness! James falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Colon stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). John Colon!
John Colon retains his middleweight title!
