PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Soviet Surrender (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corky McGraw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGraw comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Freebird - Lynard Skynard kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Corky McGraw is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Soviet Surrender!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Corky McGraw!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Surrender misses.
Surrender wants to land a leg kick but McGraw is out of range.
McGraw blocks a head kick by Surrender.
McGraw throws a lazy right hand but Surrender sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Nice takedown defense from McGraw. No joy for Surrender on that attempt.
Surrender doesn't manage to clinch there - McGraw circles away.

A left lands for McGraw.
McGraw jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Surrender tries to clinch up but McGraw circles away and keeps his distance.

McGraw missing with a left hand there. Surrender was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Surrender bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
McGraw throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Surrender on the side of the head.
McGraw throws a chopping leg kick but Surrender manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Surrender has McGraw up against the cage in a clinch.
Surrender is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
McGraw prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Soviet Surrender. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGraw goes for a takedown in the clinch but Surrender prevents it.

McGraw is trying to trip Surrender. He has hold of a leg but Surrender is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. McGraw persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Surrender can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McGraw controls the pace.
McGraw loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

McGraw throwing strikes but missing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
McGraw jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Surrender looking to land some kicks to the body here.
McGraw slaps away a takedown attempt from Surrender, before circling back to the center of the mat.
McGraw throws a hook but Surrender blocks it.
Surrender misses with an uppercut. McGraw saw that one coming.
Good exchange - McGraw coming out on top.
Surrender moves away from the strike by McGraw.
McGraw misses with a hook. Surrender ducked under it nicely.
McGraw throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Surrender stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

McGraw shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Surrender's guard.
McGraw passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Surrender is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McGraw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McGraw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
McGraw is looking to take a break and control but Surrender is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Surrender tries to control but McGraw manages to take his back.
Surrender wants to escape the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
McGraw tightening his grip on Surrender, looking for the choke.

McGraw is not going to allow Surrender to sit and survive in this position.
McGraw is looking to control Surrender but Surrender is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Surrender takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Surrender prevents McGraw from getting a body triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corky McGraw dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and McGraw counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Surrender misses with a takedown attempt - McGraw sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

McGraw lands a big right hand that sends Surrender crashing to the mat! McGraw stays standing though and waves Surrender back to his feet!

Oh Surrender is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
McGraw cracks Surrender with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Surrender tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but McGraw pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Surrender is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Corky McGraw!
