Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jose Faber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brett James! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Faber checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Faber waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract James. Faber fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it. James has managed to clinch.
James's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Jose Faber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A big right from James misses. James takes the fight into the clinch. Faber is pressed up against the cage. James has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Faber down to the mat. Faber avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Faber throws a lazy right hand but James sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. James tries a low kick but Faber avoids it. Faber throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Faber misses with an uppercut. James saw that one coming. James closes the distance and clinches up with Faber, looking for a takedown. James pushes Faber against the cage but Faber circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Faber throws a lazy right hand but James sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Faber fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches James on the side of the head. James closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - James lands in his opponent's guard. James looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Faber throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Faber is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. James is aware though and is defending well. Faber keeping full guard, as James tries to pass. James is posturing up here but Faber has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! James tries to roll out but it's too tight and James has to tap! Slick submission there by Faber!
