PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hillbilly Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hillbilly Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Harris!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Joe moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Joe bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Harris! He dives into his guard looking to finish!


Harris is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Joe trying to stand up but can't free himself from Harris's guard.
Joe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Harris is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Joe stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Joe throws a right and a left that both miss.

Harris closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Harris is trying to work for a kimura but Joe is defending well.
Joe is trying to stand up here but Harris is controlling him well.

Harris is working for a kimura but Joe is defending it quite comfortably.

Joe is defending against the submission attempts here by Harris.
Harris looks gassed!
Harris wants to free his trapped foot but Joe is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Harris is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Joe sees it coming and defends easily.

Joe has one foot on Harris's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Joe throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Joe uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Harris has time to react.
Joe scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Joe lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Joe.

Harris is still on wobbly legs! Can Joe finish him?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A combination from Joe does no damage.
Harris seems to have recovered his senses.
Joe throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Joe scores with a three punch combo!
Joe connects with a crisp jab.

Joe misses with a looping left.
Nice body punch from Joe.
Joe misses with a double jab.
Joe pivots, looking for a leg kick but Harris is out of range and Joe settles back down.
Joe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Harris moves away.
Harris looks for a takedown but Joe sprawls well.
Joe just misses with a punch to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Joe throws a series of punches but Harris moves out of range.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Harris is defended easily by Joe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hillbilly Joe dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Harris takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Joe misses with a looping right.
Joe throws a half hearted mid kick.
Harris shoots in but Joe avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Joe throws a sloppy head kick and Harris moves out of range easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Joe bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Harris's head.
Joe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Good shot there by Joe.
Joe misses the shot to the body.

Harris looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Harris pushing down on Joe's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Joe is trying to control but can't.

Harris is working for a submission of some sort.

Harris is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Harris is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Harris looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joe wants to get back to his feet.
Harris wants to take a breather but Joe is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Harris is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Joe sees it coming and defends easily.
Joe tries to kick Harris off but Harris keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Harris is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Harris prevents Joe from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Harris showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Joe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hillbilly Joe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Joe throws a jab when Harris was well out of range.

Harris drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Joe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Harris trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Joe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe wants to stand up but Harris is controlling him.
Harris trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Joe wants to stand and escape but Harris is having none of it.

Harris is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Harris wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Joe misses with a jab, cross combination.
Joe thows a body shot but no joy.

Harris feints and as Joe raises his hands in defense, Harris changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Joe has his hands on Harris's head, controlling the position.
Harris trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harris in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Harris is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Harris trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Joe wants to stand and escape but Harris is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Harris sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Joe's guard.
Joe is not content to let Harris control the position.

Jake Harris comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Harris has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
