PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Will Kings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clemens Kleon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Kings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clemens Kleon!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kings.
Kings shoots for a takedown but Kleon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kleon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kings counters with a head kick.

Kings feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kings looking to sit in guard and control but Kleon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kings manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kings controlling from the full mount.

Kleon tries to lock up and control but Kings gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kleon is trying to escape the mount.
Kings sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Kings lands with some strikes.

Kings goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kleon turns into him and now he's in Kings's guard.

Kings working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kleon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kleon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kleon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kleon wants to pass the guard but Kings is keeping the position.
Kleon trying to control the position from guard on top but Kings is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kings pulls Kleon in to control the position.
Kleon trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kleon tries to stand but Kings is controlling from the bottom.

Kings keeping moving, preventing Kleon from controlling successfully.
Kleon looks gassed!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kleon doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kings counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Kings gets to his feet - Kleon follows without any prompting.
Kings misses with a takedown
and Kleon counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kings thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Kings. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kings shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kleon but Kleon pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Kleon lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
A big right from Kings misses.
Kings is looking to clinch.
Kleon slaps away a takedown attempt from Kings, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Kleon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kings looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kleon is one step ahead there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kleon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Kings dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kleon misses with a takedown

and Kings counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kleon won't be happy with that.
Kleon bucks up and tries to throw Kings off but instead Kings has got his back!
Kleon staying busy and making it hard for Kings to control.
Kings is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Kleon controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kings seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kleon for as long as he can get away with.
Will Kings overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kings struggling to keep hold of the position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Will Kings just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Kleon tries to clinch up.

Kings shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kings was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kleon is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Kings goes for an armbar but Kleon turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kleon.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kings looking for a sweep. Not yet Kings, not yet.
Kings can't keep his opponent in guard - Kleon advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kings is trying to stand back up but Kleon is controlling him
Kleon keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Kleon is looking to advance position but Kings won't allow it.
Kings is looking for a sweep. Kleon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kleon is looking to take a break and control but Kings is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kings wants to control but Kleon is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kings throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Kleon prevents Kings from standing back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kleon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kleon is looking to take a break and control but Kings is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kleon decides to stand and escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Kings dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Kings looks to clinch

and Kleon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kings wants to sweep here but Kleon controlling him for the moment.
Kings preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kings pulls Kleon in to control the position.
Kleon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kings's guard.
Kings tries to kick Kleon off but Kleon keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kings tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kleon is trying to control. Kings wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kleon stalling away here and it's allowed Kings to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Kings has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kleon has passed into side control.
Kleon connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Kings some visible discomfort.
Kleon is working Kings over with some ground and pound from side control.

Kings is looking to reverse the position.
Kings throws a few strikes from the bottom but Kleon takes advantage and mounts!

Kleon raining down shots from the mount!
Kleon wants to control the pace but Kings is squirming around nicely.
Kings can't escape the position.

Kings is looking to improve his position but Kleon isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kleon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Kleon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kings is looking to escape.
Kings is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kings tries to hold on but Kleon postures up.
Kleon lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kleon content just to control the position here.
Kings sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Clemens Kleon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kings has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
