PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jin Lieu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryce Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lieu comes to the cage accompanied by "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. Carter has chosen Empire State of Mind as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lieu is fending him off so far but Carter persists. Nope, Lieu circles away and we're back to standing.

Carter looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Lieu!
Carter wants to control the pace but Lieu is squirming around nicely.
Carter is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Carter throws some wild stikes that Lieu manages to avoid easily.

Lieu's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Carter goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Lieu is on top in guard.
Carter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lieu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carter working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Lieu has passed into half guard!
Lieu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lieu is looking to pass Carter's guard but actually Carter recovers to full guard.
Lieu is looking to stand up but Carter won't let him.
Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carter looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Lieu wants to stand but Carter is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lieu trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Carter bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The strikes coming from Carter are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Lieu dodges the ground and pound from Carter.
Lieu is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Carter has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Carter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lieu looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lieu looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lieu!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Carter misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lieu throws a jab when Carter was well out of range.
Carter shoots in but Lieu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lieu stuffs the takedown.
Lieu slaps away a takedown attempt from Carter, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jin Lieu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bryce Carter.
Carter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lieu connects with a crisp jab.

It looks like Bryce Carter has been cut.
Lieu fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Carter on the side of the head.
Carter moves in looking to clinch but Lieu pushes him off.
Lieu slaps away a takedown attempt from Carter, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Lieu looks to score with a jab to the body but Carter is just out of range.
Lieu misses with a few strikes there.
Carter looks to land a combination but Lieu avoids it well.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lieu tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Carter wants to control from the top but Lieu keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter throws a strike but Lieu rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Carter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jin Lieu will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Carter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lieu sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Carter tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lieu was well out of range. Poor timing from Carter.

Lieu swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Lieu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Carter.

Lieu throws out a loose jab but Carter uses good head movement to avoid it.

Lieu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carter manages to avoid it.
Jin Lieu is winning the standup battle so far.
Lieu dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Carter. That did some damage!

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Lieu, as that shot connected.

Lieu lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Carter can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Lieu and Carter drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Lieu.
