PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sato Matasui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yohyro Kasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sato Matasui!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yohyro Kasaki!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matasui closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Matasui breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Matasui displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kasaki.
Kasaki feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Matasui's calf.
Matasui shoots for a takedown but Kasaki saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kasaki takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kasaki clinches but Matasui breaks the clinch

and Matasui counters by moving into the clinch.

Matasui pulls Kasaki into guard.
Kasaki trying to control but Matasui is working from the bottom.

Kasaki decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Matasui, up you get!

Matasui has closed the distance and engaged Kasaki in a clinch.

Matasui's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Matasui shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kasaki as he avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kasaki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matasui's waist but Matasui gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kasaki off to one side.
A right-left combo lands from Matasui.


It looks like Yohyro Kasaki has been cut.
Horrible takedown by Kasaki or perhaps it was just good defense by Matasui which made him look bad.
Sato Matasui has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yohyro Kasaki.
A left and a right from Kasaki both land. Nice combination.
Kasaki closes the distance but Matasui moves to the side

and Matasui counters by clinching up.
Kasaki jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Matasui walks away with a smile on his face. Kasaki gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Matasui is defended easily by Kasaki.
Kasaki shoots and misses
and Matasui counters with a right hand to the body.
Matasui really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kasaki looks gassed!

Matasui shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Matasui seems to be looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Matasui looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kasaki wants to improve his position but Matasui is controlling well.
Kasaki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matasui is working away from the top position though.

Matasui sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Kasaki trying to control but Matasui postures up.
Matasui knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kasaki on the ground.
Matasui prevents Kasaki from improving his position.
Matasui tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kasaki knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kasaki closes the distance looking to clinch

and Matasui counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Matasui tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kasaki smiles and moves away.
Kasaki throws a nice looking combination but Matasui bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kasaki slaps away a takedown attempt from Matasui, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Matasui shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kasaki as he avoids it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kasaki is trying hard to land a takedown here. Matasui sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kasaki closes this distance looking for a takedown but Matasui circles away.
Kasaki throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sato Matasui dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Matasui is looking to slow Kasaki down with leg kicks.
Kasaki scores with a one two! Matasui had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Matasui instigates a clinch.
Matasui cracks Kasaki with a nice body shot.

Matasui wants the takedown. Kasaki is fighting it off but Matasui persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kasaki's guard against the cage.

Kasaki is looking for a triangle but Matasui pushes his legs off easily.

Kasaki wants to sweep here but Matasui controlling him for the moment.
Matasui stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kasaki swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kasaki wants to stand but Matasui is controlling the position.

Matasui decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Matasui shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kasaki napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Matasui misses with the ground and pound.

Kasaki manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matasui is looking to advance position but Kasaki won't allow it.
Kasaki is staying active underneath Matasui, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Kasaki manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kasaki tries to score with some ground and pound. Matasui controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Kasaki stands up.

Matasui shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kasaki sprawls well. Kasaki wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Matasui gets slowly back to his feet.

Yohyro Kasaki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sato Matasui is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sato Matasui.
Well Matasui has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
