Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taj Mahal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Floyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taj Mahal has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Floyd fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Floyd will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mahal throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Mahal lands a nice leg kick that just misses Floyd's sensitive parts. Mahal lands with an uppercut that bounces Floyd off the cage and back into rage. A combination from Mahal does no damage. Floyd falls off balance throwing a combination
so Mahal counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Mahal throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Mahal postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mahal passes into half guard. Mahal thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Floyd wants to control but Mahal is keeping busy.
Mahal lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Mahal is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Floyd defends it well. Mahal is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Mahal thowing shots but they're missing. Mahal trying to control but Floyd is having none of it. Floyd is looking to get to half guard. Mahal tries to control but Floyd wriggling away. Mahal throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Floyd because Mahal loaded up on that one. Floyd tries to lock up and control but Mahal gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Mahal working the ground and pound effectively.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Floyd holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Mahal tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Mahal putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Mahal thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Mahal sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mahal unloads with some shots from mount but Floyd bucks and avoids them well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Floyd can do anything to dispel that myth. Mahal sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Mahal with the ground and pound from mount. Floyd wants to control but Mahal is having none of it. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Mahal won't let Floyd get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Mahal working away from the top, dropping strikes. Mahal is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Floyd to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Floyd shrugs it off. Floyd holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Mahal tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Floyd really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mahal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Floyd tries to buck Mahal off but he can't manage it. Mahal misses with a head shot. Mahal working the ground and pound effectively.
Mahal has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Floyd wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Mahal.
Mahal trying to control but he's not successful this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mahal punching from mount but Floyd doing a good job of avoiding damage. Mahal pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Mahal lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Floyd throws a combination that misses and Mahal decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Floyd's guard. Mahal is looking to work some ground and pound but Floyd has wrist control. Mahal throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Floyd works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mahal thows a big elbow that misses. Floyd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Floyd keeping moving, preventing Mahal from controlling successfully. Mahal chips away with some ground and pound. Mahal postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Floyd misses with a looping left. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Mahal shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. David Floyd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Floyd has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Taj Mahal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Floyd looks to land a combination but Mahal avoids it well. Floyd defending well though. Mahal is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Floyd doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mahal. Floyd keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Floyd ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Floyd misses with a double jab.
Mahal looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Floyd pushes Mahal off looking to stand but Mahal dives back in and keeps control.
Floyd is not content to let Mahal control the position. Mahal missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Mahal is trying to control. Floyd wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Mahal looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Mahal thows a huge punch but Floyd dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Floyd throws a one two combo.
Floyd rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mahal moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Floyd swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Mahal counters with a nice double leg into side control. Floyd won't be happy with that. Mahal scores with punches from side control. Floyd tries to escape but Mahal is in control. Floyd is not content to let Mahal control the position. Mahal advances to mount. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mahal trying to control but he's not successful this time. Floyd takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Mahal thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Mahal throws a strike aimed at the side of Floyd's head but Floyd avoids it well. Floyd wants to get back to his feet but Mahal drags him back down. Mahal tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Floyd is looking to reverse the position. Mahal fails to land a wild elbow strike.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Floyd throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Floyd takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Floyd lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Floyd on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Mahal dodges the punch combination from Floyd.

Mahal keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Floyd's efforts to push away. Mahal lands with a short head shot on the inside. Mahal has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Floyd avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Floyd prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taj Mahal. That's going to take a lot out of him. Floyd has had enough of the clinch but Mahal keeps him there for the moment. Mahal fails to pull guard.

Floyd must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Mahal is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Floyd is aware though and is defending well. Floyd is looking to stand up but Mahal won't let him. Floyd loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Floyd wants to stand but Mahal has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Mahal has his foot on Floyd's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Floyd works his way back into a safe position though. Taj Mahal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

And that's the end of the fight! Taj Mahal showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mahal, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
