1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, John St Pierre! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! St Pierre throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Breaker swats away the attempt to clinch by St Pierre. St Pierre is looking to clinch but Breaker is avoiding it.
St Pierre connects with a right hand. Breaker shakes it off. Breaker keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
St Pierre tries to clinch up but Breaker circles away and keeps his distance. Breaker clinches with his opponent.
Breaker slows down the pace here.
Breaker is pressed up against the cage. St Pierre has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Breaker down to the mat. Breaker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Breaker has a takedown stuffed. St Pierre fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
St Pierre closes this distance looking for a takedown but Breaker circles away. St Pierre pulls out of a head kick attempt.
St Pierre tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Breaker counters with a shoot takedown. St Pierre fights it but they end up in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Breaker pushes down on St Pierre's leg and manages to get into half guard. St Pierre throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
St Pierre tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. St Pierre tries to roll over but Breaker keeps him under control. Breaker sitting and controlling from the half guard. St Pierre is trying to maintain the position but Breaker is very close to passing his half guard. St Pierre has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Breaker tries to stand and escape but St Pierre actually recovers to full guard. St Pierre is trying to control the position but Breaker postures up. St Pierre looks gassed!
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Breaker shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. St Pierre throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Breaker's waist but Breaker gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing St Pierre off to one side. Thomas Breaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John St Pierre. Breaker rushes St Pierre and presses him up against the cage. St Pierre keeps control of Breaker as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Breaker manages to pull guard.
Breaker is adopting a defensive guard. Breaker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for St Pierre on the ground. Breaker is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A frustrated look appears on Breaker's face as he tries to break the clinch. Breaker looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. St Pierre is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. St Pierre is trying to break free. Breaker controlling the action here for a moment.
Breaker has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics St Pierre uses from the top position. St Pierre stopping the sweep attempt from Breaker. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. St Pierre stops Breaker from standing up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Breaker trying to control the position here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Breaker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. St Pierre won't allow Breaker to sweep him here. Breaker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Breaker trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

St Pierre stuffs the takedown. Breaker lands a body shot.
Horrible takedown by Breaker or perhaps it was just good defense by St Pierre which made him look bad. Breaker feints and as St Pierre raises his hands in defense, Breaker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Breaker throwing strikes but missing. Breaker content to stall in guard here. St Pierre is breathing heavily. Breaker would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Breaker sitting in guard, not really doing much. Breaker in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Breaker is stalling in the full guard. St Pierre can't keep his opponent in guard - Breaker advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Breaker is looking to advance position but St Pierre won't allow it. Breaker throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. St Pierre is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Breaker is figuring out what he wants to do next. Breaker wants to stand up but St Pierre has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Breaker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed St Pierre's head. Breaker is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and St Pierre defends it well. Breaker is figuring out what he wants to do next.

St Pierre might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Breaker kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Breaker scores with a nice head shot. Breaker ducks down and throws a hook to the body. No luck for Breaker with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Breaker. That's going to take a lot out of him. Breaker throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

St Pierre shoots in for a double leg but Breaker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. The fight moves into the clinch position. Breaker goes for a takedown in the clinch but St Pierre prevents it.
Breaker has St Pierre pressed against the cage, preventing St Pierre from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Breaker tries for a takedown but St Pierre manages to get underhooks.

Breaker controlling the action here. Breaker is pressing down on St Pierre's thigh, looking to free his foot. St Pierre is holding on for now. John St Pierre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
