Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Russel Paulman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Courtney Fortson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulman comes to the cage accompanied by fight music . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Russel Paulman ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Courtney Fortson! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paulman is looking to clinch. Paulman tries to clinch but Fortson is having none of it. Fortson looks to throw the jab but Paulman is out of range. Jab, jab by Paulman - just one landing.
It looks like Courtney Fortson has been cut. Fortson loads up on a big right hand but Paulman slips the punch. Paulman throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Paulman wants to clinch. Paulman rushes Fortson and presses him up against the cage. Fortson prevents a takedown attempt there.
Paulman has Fortson pressed against the cage, preventing Fortson from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Fortson tries to break the clinch but Paulman is controlling the position. Fortson tries to circle away but Paulman has him pinned against the cage. Paulman lands a takedown into guard.
Fortson wants to stand and escape but Paulman is having none of it. Paulman drops back looking for a leg! Fortson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fortson manages to kick Paulman off! Paulman jumps back into Fortson's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulman looking to pass the guard. Paulman stops Fortson from standing up.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Paulman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fortson with a hook. Fortson jabbing away but nothing is landing. Fortson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Paulman uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fortson. Fortson works the jab nicely. Nice sprawl there from Fortson as Paulman shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Russel Paulman . That's going to take a lot out of him. Paulman fails in his attempt to clinch. Paulman throws a right and a left that Fortson avoids nicely. Paulman shoots in for a takedown but Fortson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Fortson misses with a looping left. Paulman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fortson, pushing him back against the cage. Paulman working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Fortson is trying to break the clinch but Paulman has him pressed against the cage. Fortson breaks the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fortson swats away the attempt to clinch by Paulman . Paulman dives in and grabs Fortson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fortson pushes down on Paulman 's head and hops out. Paulman wants to clinch. Courtney Fortson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Paulman avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Paulman drives through and clinches with Fortson against the cage.
Paulman drags the fight down to the ground.
Fortson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Fortson tries to stand but Paulman is controlling from the bottom. Paulman keeping moving, preventing Fortson from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Paulman wants to sweep here but Fortson controlling him for the moment. Paulman is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fortson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Paulman is looking for a triangle but Fortson pushes his legs off easily.
Fortson gets to his feet - Paulman follows without any prompting. Paulman dodges the punch combination from Fortson.
Fortson looks gassed! Paulman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. A big right from Fortson misses. Paulman takes a jab right on the kisser.
A big left from Fortson misses. Fortson lands a glancing blow to the side of Paulman 's head. Paulman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Paulman is looking to take this fight into the clinch. A telegraphed right hand from Fortson misses the target. Fortson missing with a left hand there. Paulman was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Fortson scores with a nice head shot. Russel Paulman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fortson misses the jab. Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice defenses there by Paulman . Paulman has a takedown stuffed. Fortson throws a hook but Paulman avoids it easily. A jab from Fortson misses. Fortson jabbing away but nothing is landing. Paulman wants to clinch up but Fortson keeps it at a distance. Paulman uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fortson. Paulman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fortson sprawls well. Fortson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Paulman gets slowly back to his feet. Fortson pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Paulman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fortson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fortson looks to throw the jab but Paulman is out of range. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Paulman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fortson's waist but Fortson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Paulman off to one side. Nice defenses there by Paulman . Excellent takedown into side control there by Paulman . Paulman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fortson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Russel Paulman dominated that round. The cut man is working on Courtney Fortson's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Paulman takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Paulman closes the distance and clinches. A frustrated look appears on Fortson's face as he tries to break the clinch. Paulman pulls Fortson into guard.
Fortson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Paulman throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Fortson stands and throws Paulman 's legs to the side, diving into side control. Paulman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Fortson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Fortson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Fortson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Fortson is taking a breather. Paulman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Fortson is breathing heavily. Paulman works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Fortson is aware though and is defending well. Fortson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Paulman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Paulman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fortson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Fortson thows a big elbow that misses. Fortson distracts Paulman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Fortson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Paulman is proving hard to escape from. Paulman has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Fortson doesn't defend quickly enough and Paulman has managed to lock this one up! Can Fortson escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Paulman on a fantastic submission victory.
