PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between TJ Maxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Alan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alan has chosen Fucking Hostile by Pantera as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, TJ Maxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Alan!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Alan.
Maxx throws a head kick but Alan moves out of range.
Maxx lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alan circles away quickly and effectively.
Alan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Maxx is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alan.
Maxx circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Maxx.

Maxx cracks Alan with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Alan looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Maxx finish him?


It looks like James Alan has been cut.
TJ Maxx seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alan moves out of range as Maxx strikes.
Alan shoots in looking for a takedown. Maxx tries to sprawl out of it but Alan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maxx manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Maxx pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Maxx misses with a two punch combination.
Alan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Maxx misses with a wild body shot.

Maxx swinging wildly here.
Maxx thuds his right hand into Alan's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Alan fails with the takedown.
TJ Maxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Alan.
A telegraphed right hand from Maxx misses the target.
No luck for Alan with that takedown attempt.
Maxx misses with a straight left.
Alan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Maxx.
Maxx is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alan.
Alan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Maxx lands a lovely overhand right.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maxx was well out of range. Poor timing from Alan.
Maxx missing with a left hand there. Alan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Maxx keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Alan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Maxx moves away.
Maxx misses with a combination

and Alan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Alan won't allow Maxx to get back to his feet.
Maxx throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maxx trying to control the position.
Maxx wants to stand and escape but Alan is having none of it.
Alan wants to pass the guard but Maxx is keeping the position.

Alan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Alan won't allow Maxx to get back to his feet.
Maxx on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Maxx tries to get out of the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Maxx circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alan tries to clinch up.
No luck for Alan with that takedown attempt.
Maxx lands a nice shot that snaps Alan's head back.
Alan shoots in but no luck this time.
Alan looks gassed!
Maxx throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Alan slips a jab and a cross from Maxx.
Maxx stuffs the takedown.
TJ Maxx is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Maxx throws a lazy right hand but Alan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Alan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Alan blocks a head kick by Maxx.
A jab from Maxx misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alan tries to clinch but Maxx moves out of range.
Maxx misses with a hook.
Maxx misses with a head kick.
Alan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Maxx misses with a looping left.
Alan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Alan staying out of range there.
Maxx throws a lazy head kick
and Alan counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Maxx lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Maxx.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Alan avoids the head kick by Maxx.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Maxx throws a head kick but Alan moves out of range.
Maxx lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Maxx looks to throw the jab but Alan is out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

TJ Maxx dominated that round.
The cut man is working on James Alan's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Maxx throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Alan counters by clinching up.
Alan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Maxx has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Alan tries to pull guard but Maxx won't allow it.
Maxx is looking to break free of the clinch but Alan has double underhooks.

Alan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Maxx misses with a hook. Alan ducked under it nicely.
Maxx throws a series of punches but Alan avoids them all with ease.
Alan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maxx avoids it really well and circles away.
Alan looks for a takedown but Maxx sprawls well.
TJ Maxx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Alan.
Alan is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alan tries to clinch up but Maxx circles away and keeps his distance.
TJ Maxx is winning the standup battle so far.
Maxx misses with a head kick.
Alan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Maxx is pressed up against the cage. Alan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Maxx down to the mat. Maxx avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A head kick misses from Alan.
Maxx misses the jab.
Maxx misses with a combination
and Alan counters with a right hand to the body.
Alan slips under a jab.
Maxx throws a hook to the side of Alan's head but Alan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Maxx lands a left and a right that send Alan crashing to the mat, dazed. Maxx thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alan fails to land the takedown.
Alan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Maxx.
Alan moves away from the strike by Maxx.

Alan avoids the head kick by Maxx.
Maxx defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alan.

Alan blocks a head kick by Maxx.
Good shot there by Maxx.
Maxx swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Alan counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Alan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Maxx rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Alan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Alan avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Donk. Alan catches Maxx right on the button with a cross.
Maxx keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
and Alan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Maxx's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maxx swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maxx manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Maxx connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Alan is defended easily by Maxx.
Maxx throws a shot from downtown. Alan moves away and avoids it.
Alan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Maxx misses with a looping left.
Maxx throws a hook but Alan avoids it easily.
Maxx misses with a few strikes there.
Alan shoots in but no luck this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alan dodges the punch combination from Maxx.
Alan doesn't manage to clinch there - Maxx circles away.
Alan avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Maxx throws an overhand right that lands on Alan's shoulder, as Alan tries to avoid the shot.
Alan moves out of range as Maxx strikes.
Alan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A big right from Maxx misses.
Alan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The fighters circling - Maxx throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Horrible takedown by Alan or perhaps it was just good defense by Maxx which made him look bad.
Alan slips a jab from Maxx.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Maxx's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Alan passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Alan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maxx is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Alan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Maxx wants to get back to his feet but Alan drags him back down.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Alan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Maxx, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Alan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Maxx is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Alan has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Alan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Maxx knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Maxx might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Maxx manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Maxx kicks off Alan and gets to his feet.
Maxx misses with a double jab

and Alan counters with a single leg into guard. Maxx didn't expect that.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Alan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alan won't allow Maxx to get back to his feet.
Maxx trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Alan forces his way into half guard.

Alan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Maxx is in trouble now - Alan has advanced to mount!

Maxx defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Alan.

Alan jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Maxx is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Maxx and Alan has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Alan tries for a kimura but Maxx is defending well.

Alan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Maxx, who protects the arm well.
Maxx wants to get back to his feet but Alan drags him back down.
Maxx is trying to improve his position.

Alan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maxx has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Maxx tries to escape but Alan is in control.
Alan has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Maxx is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Alan looking for a guillotine from mount but Maxx is having none of it.
Maxx wants to get back to his feet.
James Alan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Alan moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Maxx has worked his arm free - good work by Maxx!

James Alan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Maxx has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
