Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aaron Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Runninghip!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz is looking to clinch but Runninghip is avoiding it.
Runninghip changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cruz tries to avoid it but Runninghip manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cruz to the ground. Cruz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cruz with a poor takedown
and Runninghip counters with a takedown into side control.
Cruz sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Runninghip throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Runninghip wants to take a breather but Cruz is having none of it.
Runninghip is looking to advance position but Cruz won't allow it.
Runninghip perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Cruz manages to get to full guard.
Runninghip stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cruz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Runninghip drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cruz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Runninghip has Cruz in his guard.
Runninghip controls Cruz momentarily but Cruz frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Runninghip wants to control the position but Cruz says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Cruz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Runninghip defending well though.
Cruz is pressing down on Runninghip's thigh, looking to free his foot. Runninghip is holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cruz perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Runninghip avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cruz.
Cruz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cruz is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cruz trying to control but Runninghip is having none of it.
Cruz fails to take his opponent's back.
Runninghip is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Runninghip really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Runninghip is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Cruz locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Runninghip is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Aaron Cruz!
