PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boris Britva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and west sadel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Britva has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. west sadel is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Britva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, west sadel!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Britva rushes sadel and presses him up against the cage.
sadel working hard to break the clinch.

sadel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
sadel fails in his attempt to clinch.

sadel moves into the clinch.
sadel lands a right hand that snaps the head of Britva backwards.
sadel lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by sadel.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
The referee calls for sadel to work.
Britva throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Britva looking to throw knees to the head but sadel is blocking nicely.
Britva tries a knee to the head but sadel blocks it.
Britva is breathing heavily.
sadel lands with a short shot to the head.
Britva gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from sadel.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Britva.
Britva has sadel pressed against the cage, preventing sadel from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

A nice right hand lands inside from sadel.
Britva takes a shot to the head.
Britva throws an elbow that misses.

sadel pulls guard.
sadel is looking to stand up but Britva isn't so interested in that idea.
sadel is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
sadel is trying to keep Britva in close.
sadel tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A head kick misses from Britva.
Britva swats away the attempt to clinch by sadel.

Britva tries to land knees in the clinch but sadel avoids the damage to the body.
sadel drops down looking for an ankle pick but Britva pulls his leg out and moves away.

sadel closes the distance and pushes Britva back into the cage.
Britva lands an elbow inside that sadel shrugs off.

sadel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Britva scores with a takedown into sadel's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
sadel wants to get back to his feet but Britva is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Britva advances position into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
sadel tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Britva presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but west sadel will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Britva counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
sadel is looking to control Britva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can sadel avoid being mounted?
sadel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
sadel pushes Britva off but Britva dives into side control.

Britva decides to stand back up. Britva steps back and let's sadel get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

sadel shoots in and bounces Britva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
sadel postures up.
sadel trying to control the position from guard on top but Britva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
sadel might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Britva kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Britva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Britva manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Britva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

sadel is desperately trying to improve his position but Britva has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Britva prevents sadel from getting the reversal.
sadel wants to control but Britva is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Boris Britva dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

and Britva moves into the clinch.

sadel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Britva, pushing him back against the cage.

sadel is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
sadel tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Britva lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
sadel is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Britva gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Boris Britva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of west sadel.
sadel blocks the elbow strike.
Britva tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Britva throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
sadel scores with a shoulder strike.
Britva gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from sadel.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

sadel breaks the clinch.
sadel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Britva's waist but Britva gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing sadel off to one side.
Britva tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
west sadel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Britva tries to work over sadel's front leg with a kick but sadel checks it.
sadel tries to clinch but Britva moves away

and Britva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
sadel wants to stand up but Britva is controlling him.
sadel is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

sadel looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Britva passes into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Britva remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

sadel is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Britva has just dragged him back down to the mat.
sadel wants to get back to his feet but Britva is dominant here and he's now got sadel's back!

Britva is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

sadel is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Boris Britva showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Britva has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
