PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Enzo Cordero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristian de Souza Augusto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Enzo Cordero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cristian de Souza Augusto!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Augusto slips a jab and a cross from Cordero.
Cordero throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Augusto.
Augusto shoots in looking for a takedown. Cordero tries to sprawl out of it but Augusto keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cordero manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Augusto shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Cordero is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Augusto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cordero is just riding it out for now. Augusto eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Augusto is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cordero is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cordero has escaped and now he's on top!

Augusto has his foot on Cordero's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cordero works his way back into a safe position though.

Augusto had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cordero defends it easily.

Cordero is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cordero tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cordero misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cristian de Souza Augusto dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


No luck for Augusto with that takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cordero darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Augusto slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Augusto is looking for a triangle but Cordero pushes his legs off easily.
Cordero stands and throws Augusto's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Cordero tries for a kimura but Augusto is defending well.
Augusto is looking for a sweep.

Cordero will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Augusto drops back looking for a leg! Cordero is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cordero manages to kick Augusto off! Augusto jumps back into Cordero's guard.
Augusto tries to free his leg and advance position but Cordero is retaining full guard.

Augusto got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cordero has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Augusto has managed to get both his arms back between Cordero's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Augusto drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cordero dives on top into guard.

Cordero drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cordero jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cordero has his hands clasped together but Augusto extends an breaks Cordero's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Augusto.
