PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Silver told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ben Steele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Silver!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silver looks to land a body kick but Steele moved away.
Steele fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Silver avoids it really well and circles away.

Steele tries to keep at a distance but Silver has taken the fight into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Silver's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Steele fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Silver is trying to break the clinch but Steele is controlling him.
Steele has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Silver avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Steele. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silver can't break the clinch.
Silver is trying to force a seperation but Steele has the dominant position.
Steele tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Silver just stands there and leans against the cage.
Silver wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Steele is trying to trip Silver. He has hold of a leg but Silver is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Steele persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Steele with a flurry of punches that miss.
Steele has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Silver working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Steele.
Steele stays in close to Silver's body and controls the position.
Steele is looking to work some ground and pound but Silver has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steele throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silver works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Steele is looking to work some ground and pound but Silver has wrist control.
Steele is working Silver over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Steele stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silver swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Silver keeping moving, preventing Steele from controlling successfully.
Steele in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Steele working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Steele stops Silver from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Steele loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Silver utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Steele throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silver works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Silver looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silver looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Silver looks to land a right hand but Steele moved out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Silver.
A thudding body kick lands there by Silver!
Silver connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Ben Steele has been cut.
Steele closes the distance and clinches up with Silver, looking for a takedown. Steele pushes Silver against the cage but Silver circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Silver moves in looking to clinch but Steele pushes him off.
Silver lands a nice shot that snaps Steele's head back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silver misses with a body kick.

Silver lands a big head kick that sends Steele tumbling to the mat! Silver takes a step backwards and waves Steele back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Steele stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Silver.
Steele is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steele avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Silver! Steele is out on his feet! Silver rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Steele is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Steele is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Silver!
