PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Magne Midgard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janu Haperenu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Janu Haperenu was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haperenu takes a kick to the side of the head.
Midgard throws a head kick but Haperenu moves out of range.

Haperenu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Midgard looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Haperenu stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Midgard scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Midgard plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Midgard shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Haperenu as he jumps to the side.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Midgard checks a leg kick.

Midgard throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Haperenu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Haperenu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

and Midgard counters with a nice low kick that buckles Haperenu's knee momentarily.
Midgard connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Midgard bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Haperenu looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A head kick from Midgard lands but Haperenu takes it in his stride.
Midgard throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Haperenu's head.
Haperenu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Midgard is fending him off so far but Haperenu persists. Nope, Midgard circles away and we're back to standing.

Haperenu thows a big elbow that misses.
Midgard is looking to stand up but Haperenu isn't so interested in that idea.
Haperenu looking to sit in guard and control but Midgard gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Haperenu looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Midgard would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Haperenu is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

It looks like Janu Haperenu has been cut.
Haperenu closes the distance and clinches up with Midgard, looking for a takedown. Haperenu pushes Midgard against the ropes but Midgard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Midgard drives through and clinches with Haperenu against the ropes.

Haperenu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Haperenu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Haperenu swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Midgard is now in Haperenu's guard. A big mistake from Haperenu there, giving up the dominant position!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Haperenu is on top in guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Haperenu winds up and cracks Midgard with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

and Haperenu counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A close round but Janu Haperenu will probably get the nod.

and Midgard counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Haperenu is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Haperenu tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Midgard just stands there and leans against the ropes.
