PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iron Jake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Laarj Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dong is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I Got Love. Laarj Dong will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Iron Jake!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Laarj Dong!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Jake.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jake. Dong does a little dance to reset his feet.

Dong decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Jake avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dong.

Dong is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jake defends it well.

Dong is working for a submission of some sort.
Dong scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Dong takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jake tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Dong manages to move to mount!
Dong can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jake is looking to escape.

Dong looking for a guillotine from mount but Jake is having none of it.
Jake tries to reverse the position but Dong maintains control.
Jake is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Jake trying desperately to get to his feet.

Dong stops Jake from getting back to his feet.
Jake won't allow Dong to pass to mount.

Jake pushes Dong off looking to stand but Dong dives back in and keeps control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dong is looking for a kimura here.
Jake wants to control but Dong is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dong looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dong stops Jake from getting back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Dong doesn't manage to clinch there - Jake circles away.
Jake swings away with a leg kick that misses.
No joy there for Jake, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dong paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jake throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jake lands with a cross.
Jake misses with a low kick.
Dong takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Good work by Dong as he checks the leg kick.
Jake tries to work over Dong's front leg with a kick but Dong checks it.
Jake lands an overhand right.


It looks like Laarj Dong has been cut.
Jake fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dong takes one on the button.

Jake moves into the clinch.
Dong has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jake is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jake is looking to break free of the clinch but Dong has double underhooks.
A frustrated look appears on Jake's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jake breaks the clinch.
Jake bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Jake gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dong counters with a nice low kick that buckles Jake's knee momentarily.
A punch combination from Jake misses.
Jake moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Jake throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Iron Jake will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dong misses with a takedown attempt

so Jake counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jake preventing the sweep.
Jake throwing strikes from guard but Dong blocks nicely.
Dong looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jake is one step ahead there.
Dong keeping moving, preventing Jake from controlling successfully.

Dong is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Dong is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jake is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jake swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Jake looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dong is fending him off so far but Jake persists. Nope, Dong circles away and we're back to standing.
Jake throws a right and a left that both miss.

Dong darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Dong stops Jake from getting back to his feet.
Jake is trying to get back to full guard.
Dong is looking to take a break and control but Jake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dong might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jake kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Iron Jake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Dong counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jake won't be happy with that.
Dong creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jake sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Dong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Dong is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jake knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jake swings for the body but Dong moves out of range.
Jake shoots in looking for a takedown. Dong tries to sprawl out of it but Jake keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dong manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Dong wants to control from the top but Jake keeps moving.
Dong trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Dong postures up in Jake's guard and throws a big left but Jake blocks it.
Jake wants to stand but Dong is controlling the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jake looks to land a combination. Dong sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Dong unloads with some shots from mount but Jake bucks and avoids them well.
Jake is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Dong throwing strikes here but Jake is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Dong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Dong goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jake turns into him and now he's in Dong's guard.

That was a close round but Iron Jake did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

Jake connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Iron Jake is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Dong tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

and Jake counters with a three punch combo that has Dong backing up. Dong nods at Jake to acknowledge the strikes.

Iron Jake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Laarj Dong.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jake throws a series of punches but Dong avoids them all with ease.

Jake swats away the attempt to clinch by Dong.

Some bone on bone action there as Dong checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Laarj Dong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
