Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jan Blachowicz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Wayne Marick! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marick will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Blachowicz tries for a takedown but Marick circles away easily and Marick counters with a two punch combo. Blachowicz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marick's waist but Marick gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Blachowicz off to one side. Blachowicz misses with a takedown attempt and Marick counters with a big head kick but Blachowicz shrugs it off. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jan Blachowicz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Marick tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Marick bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Blachowicz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Marick won't allow Blachowicz to pass to mount. Marick looks gassed! Blachowicz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Blachowicz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Marick has managed to free his arm - good work. Marick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blachowicz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Blachowicz wants to take a breather but Marick is having none of it. Blachowicz throwing shots but Marick is blocking nicely. Blachowicz is looking to take a break and control but Marick is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Marick is trying to get back to full guard. Marick trying to control from the bottom.
Blachowicz wants to pass the guard but Marick is defending well. Blachowicz uses his free foot to push down on Marick's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Marick. Marick squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Blachowicz wants to control the pace but Marick is squirming around nicely. Blachowicz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Marick is wriggling around trying to escape.
Blachowicz avoids the attempt from Marick to control. Blachowicz has isolated one of Marick's arms. Marick looking to fight him off but Blachowicz twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
