Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bungo Kumbas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Mustard Plug - Mr. Smiley. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bungo Kumbas!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kumbas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smith prevents Kumbas from getting back to his feet.
Smith advances to half guard.
Smith tries to pass to full mount but Kumbas defends it.
Smith is trying to control. Kumbas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Smith throwing shots but Kumbas is blocking nicely.
Smith trying to pass the guard but Kumbas defending well.

Smith is looking for a kimura here.
Smith throws a strike but Kumbas avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Kumbas is retaining full guard.
Smith won't allow Kumbas to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kumbas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Smith misses with a wild combination.
Kumbas throws a combination that misses
and Smith counters with a thumping low kick.
Kumbas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.

Smith instigates a clinch.
Smith has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kumbas avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kumbas tries to circle away but Smith has him pinned against the cage.
Smith keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kumbas's efforts to push away.
Kumbas wants to break free but Smith has control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kumbas working hard to break the clinch.
Smith lands an uppercut.
Kumbas wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kumbas wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Smith has him pressed against the cage.
Smith lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Smith has Kumbas pressed against the cage, preventing Kumbas from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Smith manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kumbas!
Poor strikes thrown by Smith there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Smith wants to control the pace but Kumbas is squirming around nicely.

Kumbas wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Smith.
Smith controlling his opponent.
Smith can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kumbas is looking to escape.
Smith throws a strike there. Kumbas manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Smith throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kumbas is looking to escape.
Kumbas is refusing to be controlled, as Smith sits in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kumbas blocking the ground and pound attempt from Smith.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Smith slips a jab from Kumbas.
Kumbas throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kumbas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Smith connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kumbas momentarily.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Kumbas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A cross from Smith lands.
Horrible takedown by Kumbas or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.
A punch lands to the side of Kumbas 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Smith lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smith misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kumbas can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kumbas tries to buck Smith off but he can't manage it.
Smith throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Smith thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Kumbas blocking the ground and pound.

Smith has control of Kumbas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kumbas regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Smith trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Kumbas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kumbas is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Smith misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Smith thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
BOOM! Smith connects with a massive shot to the dome!


It looks like Bungo Kumbas has been cut.

Smith won't let Kumbas get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Smith misses with a head shot.
Smith throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Smith lands a heavy elbow.
Kumbas is breathing heavily.
Kumbas avoids a series of strikes thrown by Smith.
Smith looking to finish with strikes here!
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kumbas because Smith loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Bungo Kumbas's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Smith, as that shot connected.
Smith feints and then cracks Kumbas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kumbas down.
Kumbas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kumbas misses with a combination
and Smith counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Smith cracks Kumbas with an open hand slap.
Smith displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kumbas throws out the jab.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kumbas sprawls well. Kumbas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.

Kumbas is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Kumbas takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kumbas is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.

Kumbas defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Smith.
