PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Ball (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thales Moreno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Ball had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 206.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Thales Moreno!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ball ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Moreno moves away.
Moreno throws a right hand that Ball ducks under and follows up with a left that Ball also avoids with ease.
Moreno takes a shot right to the bread basket.
A big left from Moreno misses.
Moreno lands with a straight right. Ball didn't see that one coming.


It looks like Jack Ball has been cut.
Moreno throws a right and a left that both miss.
Some wild striking there from Moreno.
Moreno misses with a hook to the body
and Ball counters with a left to the body.
A big right from Ball misses.
Moreno shoots for a takedown but Ball saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Moreno looks for a takedown but Ball sprawls well.
Moreno throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Moreno uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ball.
Moreno tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Ball counters with a three punch combo that has Moreno backing up. Moreno nods at Ball to acknowledge the strikes.

Ball has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ball there as he acknowledges the shot.

Moreno looks gassed!

Ball gets a clinch.
Moreno is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
Ball lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Ball prevents a body shot from Moreno.

Moreno can't find room to land a body shot as Ball controls the action.
Moreno is trying to maintain a safe position but Ball gets an underhook and turns Moreno into the ropes.
Ball can't break the clinch.
Ball swings wildly with an uppercut but Moreno uses good head movement to avoid it.
Moreno scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Ball lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Moreno is looking to control Ball's arms but Ball gets an underhook and turns him. Now Moreno has his back to the ropes.
Ball lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Moreno backwards.
A frustrated look appears on Ball's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Ball trying to control the position but instead, Moreno has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ball into the ropes.

Ball trying to stand up but can't free himself from Moreno's guard.

Moreno has his foot on Ball's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ball works his way back into a safe position though.
Ball wants to stand but Moreno has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Moreno is looking for a triangle but Ball pushes his legs off easily.
Ball has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Moreno is proving hard to escape from.

Ball wants to stand and escape but instead Moreno has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Moreno stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ball swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Ball will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ball throws a nice looking combination but Moreno bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Moreno swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ball counters with a nice uppercut.
Moreno misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ball.
Ball lands with an uppercut that bounces Moreno off the ropes and back into rage.
Moreno tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Ball counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Ball counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ball throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Ball on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Moreno slips a jab from Ball.
Moreno thuds his right hand into Ball's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Moreno throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ball moves out of range of the strikes.
Moreno is looking to clinch but Ball is avoiding it.

Moreno takes a swing at Ball's ribcage but misses.
Moreno walks into a stiff left hand from Ball.
Ball dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ball thuds a left hand into Moreno's body.
Ball blocks a jab.
Moreno takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Moreno fails with the takedown.
Moreno avoids the body shot from Ball.
Jack Ball is winning the standup battle so far.

Moreno drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Moreno throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Moreno throws a predictable looking body shot
and Ball connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ball darts in trying to clinch
and Moreno cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ball misses the shot to the body.
Ball connects with a good right hand that stumbles Moreno. Moreno circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Moreno throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ball's waist but Ball gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Moreno off to one side.

Moreno tries to keep at a distance but Ball has taken the fight into the clinch.
Moreno misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Ball is trying to break free.
Ball is leaning against Moreno and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Ball is trying to force a seperation but Moreno has the dominant position.
Ball makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Ball's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Moreno throws a combination that misses
and Ball counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Ball uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Moreno has time to react.
Ball tries to close the distance and clinch up but Moreno swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ball lands a slapping body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


The crowd cheers as Ball lands an impressive looking overhand right. Moreno doesn't seem phased though.
Thales Moreno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Moreno looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Ball counters with a series of strikes. Moreno will be more careful next time no doubt.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ball, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
