PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Captain Crunch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vitor Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Captain Crunch!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch moves in looking to clinch but Santos pushes him off.
Crunch tries to clinch up.
Santos shoots in for a takedown but Crunch shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Crunch tries to close the distance and clinch but Santos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Crunch changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santos tries to avoid it but Crunch manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santos to the ground. Santos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Crunch is looking to clinch.

and Santos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Santos.

Crunch wants to stand and escape but Santos is having none of it.
Santos is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Santos gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Crunch tries to grapple but his opponent circles

so Santos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Crunch is looking to stand up but Santos isn't so interested in that idea.
Santos wants to control from the top but Crunch keeps moving.

Santos thows a big elbow that misses.

Santos decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Crunch lands a jab to the nose.
Santos circles away from the clinch attempt

so Santos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Santos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Santos is breathing heavily.

Crunch thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Crunch is looking for a triangle but Santos pushes his legs off easily.
Crunch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Crunch should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Santos is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Santos takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Crunch darts in trying to clinch

and Santos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Santos.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Crunch is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Santos is aware though and is defending well.
Crunch looking to hit a scissor sweep but Santos is one step ahead there.

Santos decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A left and a right from Crunch both land. Nice combination.

and Santos counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Crunch's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Santos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Crunch is proving hard to escape from.
Crunch wants to stand up but Santos is controlling him.
Crunch not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Crunch working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Santos doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Santos manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Santos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crunch swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Crunch is looking for a triangle but Santos pushes his legs off easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Santos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Santos.

Crunch is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Crunch tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Crunch successfully pulls guard.
Santos stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crunch swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Crunch wants to stand and escape but Santos is having none of it.

Crunch has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Santos is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Crunch.
You can see the frustration on Crunch's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Crunch tries to close the distance and clinch but Santos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Vitor Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Santos drives through and clinches with Crunch against the cage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Crunch jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Santos walks away with a smile on his face. Crunch gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Crunch wants to clinch but Santos slips to the side

and Santos counters with a shoot takedown. Crunch fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crunch is striking off his back. Santos thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Crunch is looking for a sweep. Santos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Crunch wants to control but Santos passes into side.
Crunch is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vitor Santos dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Santos keeps the fight on the outside.
Captain Crunch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Crunch looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Crunch moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Crunch tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Santos swivels and escapes.
Crunch lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Crunch misses with a takedown

and Santos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Crunch!

Crunch tries to lock up and control but Santos gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Santos stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Crunch leaves Santos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Santos counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Crunch is trying to stand back up but Santos is controlling him
Santos is thwarting Crunch's attempts to control the position.
Crunch is trying to control but Santos manages to pass to mount!
Crunch is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Crunch somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

and Santos counters with a slapping leg kick.
Santos connects with a high kick.
Crunch misses with a wild combination.
Crunch closes the distance but Santos moves to the side

and Santos counters with a single leg into guard. Crunch didn't expect that.
Crunch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Crunch is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Santos manages to get to full guard.

Santos is trying to control the position but Crunch postures up.
Santos has a closed guard, preventing Crunch from standing up.
Crunch wants to stand and escape but instead Santos has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Santos wants to control from the top but Crunch keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vitor Santos showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Santos, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
