The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mehnutz bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of St Pierre's head. St Pierre throws a right hand that Mehnutz ducks under and follows up with a left that Mehnutz also avoids with ease. St Pierre avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
C Mehnutz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. St Pierre keeps the fight on the outside. Mehnutz dodges the punch combination from St Pierre.

St Pierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mehnutz swivels though and keeps the full guard. St Pierre preventing the sweep. Mehnutz pulls St Pierre in close to his closed guard and prevents St Pierre from doing any damage or advancing position. Let's hope that Mehnutz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Mehnutz looking for a sweep. Not yet Mehnutz, not yet.

St Pierre is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mehnutz defends well. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. St Pierre isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mehnutz stacks St Pierre on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mehnutz!

Mehnutz is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. St Pierre is trying to improve his position. St Pierre trying his best to control but Mehnutz has mounted him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. St Pierre is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

He's landed in Mehnutz's guard. St Pierre drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mehnutz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now St Pierre has Mehnutz in his guard. St Pierre throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mehnutz escapes and throws St Pierre's legs to the side, diving into side control! Both fighters are breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. St Pierre is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mehnutz stands up. St Pierre shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mehnutz sprawls well. Mehnutz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. St Pierre fails to pull the fight into his guard.
