PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pyotr Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shuuji Hanamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shuuji Hanamoto told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pyotr Kalashnikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shuuji Hanamoto!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanamoto shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kalashnikov as he jumps to the side.
Kalashnikov stalks Hanamoto and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hanamoto's face. Hanamoto staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Shuuji Hanamoto has been cut.

Hanamoto scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shuuji Hanamoto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kalashnikov lands a left and a right that send Hanamoto crashing to the mat, dazed. Kalashnikov thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hanamoto closes the distance and clinches up with Kalashnikov, looking for a takedown. Hanamoto pushes Kalashnikov against the ropes but Kalashnikov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hanamoto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kalashnikov tries to avoid it but Hanamoto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kalashnikov to the ground. Kalashnikov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kalashnikov throws a right hand that Hanamoto ducks under and follows up with a left that Hanamoto also avoids with ease.

Hanamoto fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kalashnikov avoids it really well and circles away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kalashnikov lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Hanamoto shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kalashnikov napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hanamoto misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Hanamoto throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

The ground and pound from Hanamoto seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Hanamoto throws a strike aimed at the side of Kalashnikov's head but Kalashnikov avoids it well.
Hanamoto is trying to ground and pound but Kalashnikov uses the momentary lack of control by Hanamoto to regain half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hanamoto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kalashnikov sprawls well initially but Hanamoto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
