PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zig Ziggler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jorge Cruz has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jorge Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zig Ziggler!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz throws out a loose jab but Ziggler uses good head movement to avoid it.
Cruz misses with a series of wild punches.

Ziggler feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ziggler controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Cruz wants to get back to his feet but Ziggler is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ziggler slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cruz waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ziggler.
Jorge Cruz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cruz tests Ziggler's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cruz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ziggler.

Ziggler shoots in and bounces Cruz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Ziggler stops Cruz from standing up.
Ziggler stays in close to Cruz's body and controls the position.
Ziggler prevents Cruz from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cruz keeping moving, preventing Ziggler from controlling successfully.
Ziggler thows a big elbow that misses.
Cruz wants to stand but Ziggler is controlling the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ziggler tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cruz swivels and escapes.

Cruz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ziggler to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ziggler is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cruz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ziggler is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ziggler works over Cruz with some ground and pound from guard.
Cruz wants to stand and escape but Ziggler is having none of it.
Cruz trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cruz stuffs the takedown attempt from Ziggler. Ziggler gets slowly back to his feet.
Ziggler shoots in for a takedown but Cruz shows good takedown defense.
Jorge Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zig Ziggler.
Cruz looks to throw the jab but Ziggler is out of range.
No luck for Ziggler with that takedown attempt.
Ziggler looks gassed!
Cruz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cruz stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Ziggler shoots for a takedown but Cruz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cruz scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Cruz scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorge Cruz dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ziggler tries for a takedown but Cruz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ziggler shoots in for a double leg but Cruz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cruz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ziggler looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Cruz connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Cruz lands a big right hand that sends Ziggler crashing to the mat! Cruz stays standing though and waves Ziggler back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cruz lands a brutal uppercut that launches Ziggler off his feet! Ziggler tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jorge Cruz!
