PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between PB Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay comes into the arena with Raspberry Swirl - Tori Amos blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Dixon's choice of entrance music: Joker and the Thief, Wolfmother. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, PB Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Dixon!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jay misses with a low kick.
Jay tries to clinch but Dixon is having none of it.

Dixon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dixon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jay wants to control but Dixon passes easily into half guard.
Jay is looking to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jay pushes Dixon off and gets back to his feet.
Jay chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Jay throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Jay.

Dixon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jay napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Dixon controls the position.
Dixon tries to move to mount but Jay blocks the move with his legs.
Jay is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Dixon is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Dixon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Dixon won't let Jay get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ryan Dixon just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dixon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jay ducks under a wild hook from Dixon.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dixon blocks a head kick by Jay.
PB Jay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jay fails in his attempt to clinch.

Dixon tries to keep at a distance but Jay has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jay utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Jay breaks from the clinch.
Jay tries a head kick but it misses.

Dixon shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jay's guard.
Dixon prevents Jay from getting back to his feet.
Jay has his hands on Dixon's head, controlling the position.
Jay controls Dixon momentarily but Dixon frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Dixon dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jay throws a nice outside leg kick.
Jay lands a head kick. Dixon smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Dixon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jay is looking to slow Dixon down with leg kicks.

Dixon changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jay looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dixon lands a nice forearm strike.

Dixon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jay is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Dixon controls the position.

Sloppy strikes there by Dixon.
Jay tries to buck Dixon off but Dixon is having none of it.

Dixon is staying tight to Jay's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jay gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Dixon thows a huge punch but Jay dodges it nicely.
Jay tries to get to full guard but Dixon has control of the leg.
Jay is working hard here to advance position.

Dixon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jay has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dixon is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jay wants to control but Dixon is keeping busy.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dixon keeps the fight on the outside.
Jay feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Dixon's calf.
Dixon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jay's waist but Jay gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dixon off to one side.
Jay tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A solid body kick from Jay.
Dixon is breathing heavily.
Jay tries to clinch but Dixon moves out of range.
Jay dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dixon. That did some damage!

Dixon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dixon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jay swivels and escapes.

Dixon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Dixon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Jay doesn't manage to clinch there - Dixon circles away.
Jay throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Dixon moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jay moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Jay clinches.
Jay looking to slow down the pace here.
Jay tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Dixon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jay is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Dixon is trying to force a seperation but Jay has the dominant position.

Jay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jay throws a low kick, looking for Dixon's leg but Dixon calmly moves out of range.
Dixon throws a head kick but Jay moves out of range.
Dixon throws the kick towards the body but Jay avoids it.
Dixon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jay throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Jay feints and then cracks Dixon's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Dixon down.
Jay fails with an attempt to clinch.

Jay rushes Dixon and presses him up against the cage.
Dixon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dixon on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Jay. Jay obviously looking to wear him down.
Jay swats away the attempt to clinch by Dixon.
Jay wants to clinch up but Dixon keeps it at a distance.
Jay avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Jay tries to clinch but Dixon moves out of range.
Dixon shoots in but no luck this time.
PB Jay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Dixon.

Jay doesn't manage to clinch there - Dixon circles away.

Jay putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Dixon in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Dixon tries to pull guard but Jay holds him up against the cage and eventually Dixon drops back down to his feet.

Dixon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Jay is in all sorts of trouble here.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
PB Jay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dixon trying to mount his opponent but Jay defends it.
Dixon wants to control but Jay is keeping him busy.
Dixon works his way into full mount!
Jay is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to PB Jay.
I think Dixon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
