Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Cuevas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cuevas has chosen Leave Us Alone/ Dead By Gun as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Cuevas! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cuevas shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Payne is trying to stand.
Cuevas working the head and body with strikes. Cuevas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Payne's head. Payne looks like he's trying to stand up.
Cuevas controlling the action here. Payne is looking to escape. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cuevas connects with a nice short shot to Payne's temple. Cuevas is controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cuevas decides to stand and escape the position. Payne throws a right and a left that Cuevas avoids nicely. Cuevas keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Payne. Cuevas has managed to clinch.
Cuevas looking for a takedown. Payne is trying to break the clinch but Cuevas has him pressed against the cage. Cuevas keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Payne's efforts to push away. Cuevas lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Cuevas scores with an uppercut up the middle. Cuevas wants the takedown. Payne is fighting it off but Cuevas persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Payne's guard against the cage. Cuevas prevents Payne from getting back to his feet. Cuevas slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Cuevas stops Payne from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Payne trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Payne can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cuevas controls the pace. Cuevas prevents Payne from getting back to his feet. Payne is breathing heavily. Cuevas controls from within his opponent's guard. Cuevas gets to his feet. Payne looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! A punch combination from Payne misses. Payne misses with a wild body shot. Payne moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Max Payne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cuevas clinches up against the cage. Cuevas wants a takedown but no success here.
Cuevas's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Cuevas drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Payne gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Cuevas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Payne is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Cuevas changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Payne fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Cuevas has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
It looks like Tony Cuevas has been cut. Cuevas shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Payne napping and manages to drive through into side control! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Payne pushes Cuevas away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cuevas gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Cuevas trying to control the action but Payne is working from the bottom. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cuevas avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Payne looks to score with a jab to the body but Cuevas is just out of range. Cuevas shoots in for a takedown but Payne shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cuevas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Payne does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Cuevas slips a nice elbow through Payne's hands, connecting with Payne's forehead.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A combination from Payne does no damage. Cuevas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cuevas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Cuevas won't let Payne get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Cuevas. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Cuevas content just to control the position here. Payne is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cuevas looking to finish Payne with some ground and pound. This is bad for Payne! Cuevas with a couple of short strikes. Cuevas lands a big shot there that rocks Payne but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Cuevas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cuevas landing strikes from the mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Payne's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Cuevas controlling from mount. Cuevas lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cuevas pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Cuevas scoring with strikes but Payne is staying in there. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cuevas cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
