PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Greatest Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexis Arguello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fighter kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Eye of The Tiger. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greatest Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexis Arguello!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fighter fails with a takedown attempt.
Fighter fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fighter uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Arguello.
Arguello leaves Fighter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greatest Fighter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arguello swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Fighter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Arguello as he avoids it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Arguello is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Fighter has just dragged him back down to the mat.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Arguello can do anything to dispel that myth.

Fighter thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Fighter tries for a kimura but Arguello is defending well.
Fighter is breathing heavily.
Fighter trying to control the position but Arguello is working away.

Fighter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Arguello is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Arguello wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Fighter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Arguello keeps working.
Fighter prevents Arguello from escaping the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Arguello is not content to let Fighter control the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Greatest Fighter will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Arguello misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fighter shoots in for a takedown but Arguello shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Alexis Arguello is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Arguello tries to bum rush Fighter with a series of wild strikes but Fighter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Arguello lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Arguello.
Arguello connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fighter's hands.
Fighter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Arguello but Arguello pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Alexis Arguello is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Alexis Arguello showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
