PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lassa Horns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brock Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lassa Horns!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Horns sprawls well initially but Gracie persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Horns is looking to improve his position.
Gracie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Horns trying to hold on to Gracie's head to control him but Gracie postures up.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Horns wants to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Horns can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Horns is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie is just content to waste time from the top position. Horns takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Gracie slips nicely into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Horns is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gracie trying to control from half guard but Horns is working away.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Horns defends it well.
Gracie could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Horns won't allow Gracie to pass to mount.
Horns wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Horns holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Horns is trying to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Horns closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gracie tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Gracie manages to break the clinch.

Horns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gracie was covering up waiting for the punch and Horns finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Horns postures up.
Horns throwing strikes but missing.
Horns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie is looking for a triangle but Horns pushes his legs off easily.
Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gracie working for a triangle but Horns defends it easily.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Horns stands and steps away. Gracie gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Horns fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gracie, pushing him back against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Horns obliges.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Horns jumps into guard, dragging Gracie to the mat.

Horns looking for a guillotine here but Gracie defends easily.
Gracie throwing strikes but missing.
Horns really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie pushes down on Horns's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Horns trying to hold on to Gracie's head to control him but Gracie postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brock Gracie will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Gracie moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Horns counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gracie won't be happy with that.
Gracie tries to buck Horns off but Horns is having none of it.
Gracie manages to get back to half guard.
Horns moves nicely into side control.
Gracie tries to bench press Horns off him but Horns keeps the position.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Horns tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Horns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Horns trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Gracie scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Horns defends it.
Horns makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Horns.
Horns controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.
Gracie stands and throws Horns's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Gracie is trying to get an arm triangle but Horns is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horns wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Horns is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Gracie has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Horns is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Gracie dominated that second round.
That's time! Gracie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Horns moves into the clinch.
Gracie stalling in the clinch but Horns improves position.
Gracie tries to score a body lock takedown but Horns shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Horns breaks the clinch.
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Horns counters with a single leg into guard. Gracie didn't expect that.
Horns postures up and lands a big shot to Gracie's brow.
Gracie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Horns!
Horns is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Horns might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gracie kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Horns is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Horns tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.
Horns is in a horrible position here. Gracie smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Gracie lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Horns counters with a nice low kick that buckles Gracie's knee momentarily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brock Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Horns feints and as Gracie raises his hands in defense, Horns changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gracie working a defensive guard but Horns passes into half guard.
Horns not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Lassa Horns has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gracie is looking to control Horns's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gracie avoid being mounted?

And that's the end of the fight!
Lassa Horns comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
